Mailbag1:09:30What is your favorite arcade memory?

What would you like GGA to add?
Ricky KellerIt’s really difficult to narrow down one specific moment or experience in an arcade for me, but I definitely miss the sense of appreciation we had for games back then. In arcades you had to be skilled, very skilled, to simply continue. You had to explore every mechanic, perfect your timing, and be prepared to put in the time and money. In order to do that, you had to have a true appreciation for the design including its faults. There was a real sense of camaraderie when someone excelled and achieved a new high score.

Today we have a lot of crazy advanced games available at super cheap prices that we play alone in our own homes. Appreciation for “the game” has gone down the toilet. It’s appropriate to demand quality out of our games now, just as we did in the arcade, but even for good quality PC/console games, we don’t appreciate them as much as we used to. I know I made this seem a lot more simple than it is, but I miss that.
1:16:13Ryan AhnDear Goartjira vs CharJon,

Fondling my arcade memories, I recall my most impactful was seeing the original Double Dragon arcade board for the first time with people crowded around it at a local liquor store. When it was released back in the day, to use an overused term, it was groundbreaking.

It was the most violent game I'd ever seen, it had the clearest story that was explained in 7 seconds:
Gang of dudes deck a girl in a short dress, she buckles, they pick her up and take her away, revealing the first panty shot in a videogame I'd also ever seen, then two brothers go after them.
‎It was the best, dammit!

It reminded me of a video game version of The Warriors. The two brothers even wore vests, just cos!

And not to hate, but to hate, screw anyone that calls them Billy (or Bimmy) and Jimmy Lee. They were known as Hammer and Spike, as written on the board, you philistines!

Tug hard, RyAhn

Mailbag Answer - Alas, my experiences with arcade machines are little to none.; all there is near me is a Mr. Gatti's and a theater with maybe a couple of them, but nothing noteworthy. When I was a kid my family would drive to this place once every month or so which had an amusement area on the second floor; there were rides, a theater, miniature golf, and naturally games. However, I don't remember ever playing the arcade machines; the only games I played were the ones that gave out tickets as I loved getting prizes. Other than being unable to play them at my convenience they didn't appeal to me because I usually don't know how to play them and getting the high score didn't, and still kind of doesn't, really do anything for me.

I will say this though; when I was at Mr. Gatti's with some friends one of them put a $20 in a token machine thinking she was going to get change instead.

Could you please somehow convert the Primal Rage 2 machine where I could play it on a SNES cartridge?! PLEASE!

Does anyone who works there wear earplugs or something because I would think one would get tired of hearing the sounds of the machines constantly.

Is there a dark side to being in the arcade business?

Has there ever been an experiment that proves that arcaders are more suppiorer to consolers when it comes to fighting games or whatnot?

If there's such passion for arcades why aren't why trying to get help from Japan; they seem to know what they're doing.

Why Galloping Ghost? Does it get spooky at night?

Speaking of titles, what's the dumbest arcade name in your opinion?

DOC, what did you think of the movie Wreck-it-Ralph?

Sincerely, Songbird
