Maj.Gen.Hettiarachchi succeeds Major General Janaka Ratnayake who retired recently. He is an old boy of Ananda College, Colombo. He joined the Army in 1984, and served in it for 35 years holding various positions.

He was awarded with ‘Ranashura’, ‘Uttamaseva’ and ‘Vishista Seva Vibushana’ medals in recognition of his service excellence. He retired on July 22, 2019 and was recalled for service to take up an assignment under the Defence Ministry.
