The role of a research engineer is the realisation of computational experiments: their technical design, implementation, deployment, execution, and visualisation. The res-eng will gradually take ownership of larger projects from the researcher, starting in the experiment design phase they work on jointly. The project scale ranges from efficient one-time experiments to e.g. deploying, fine-tuning and modifying large language models.
