Uncanny X-Men #13PKOTW. This stripped down X-Men team is fun! The Larocca art looks sharper than it has in a while, reminiscent of his work on Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man. The Dark Beast is their first target, but we see other X-Men creating a situation that must be handled. Is this anti mutant vaccination really effective, or will they find out that it was all a ruse?

Amazing Spider-Man #16.HUFirstly, why the strange numbering for this? This story is fairly integral to the main Hunted storyline, but most multiple issue story arcs just go in sequence without this numbering construct. In any event, we find out how Spider-Man gets pulled into the Hunted storyline through the Black Cat.

Avengers #16PKOTW. This story really moved the current Dracula/Vampire War storyline along nicely, and throws in some Ghost Rider character and mythos development to boot! This is not “New Reader-Friendly”, but would entice new readers to hunt down previous issues to catch up.

Avengers No Road Home #4I agree with Roddykat. This issue is full of narrative exposition explaining the backstory of Nyx and her children. This was really helpful for me, as I had been a little put off a bit ‘by yet another story of heroes chasing after stones at the ends of the universe. The Hulk’s line to close the book reminds me of a Ray Charles song made famous again in the 1980’s by the Cosby show.

Batman #66The Catwoman edition of the Knightmares collection of stories. This was an entertaining issue on its face. A different view of Batman’s war on crime at least, but one that we as fans of the super-hero genre are familiar with- it's hard for heroes to have happy social lives.

Champions #3Finally, the rest of the team may be let in on the dirty secret of why they’re still alive. Glad that Sam Alexander’s story is not being left alone to languish in the remains of his solo book.

Immortal Hulk #14PKOTW. This was a great issue. It is easier to understand if you are steeped in Hulk continuity, but it moves along nicely. Death may not come for anyone gamma powered apparently. Really strong art that is definitely appropriate for the horror aspect of the story by Kyle Hotz.

Ronin Island #1PKOTW. The story setup is very friendly for new and especially younger readers of a first issue. The premise is interesting, and I look forward to seeing the different cultures both clash and blend over the course of the story. I think of the scene from The Walking Dead where Darryl tells his still racist brother that Glenn is Korean, not Chinese. Made me want to pick up my copy of Oriental Adventures D&D book.
