10/13/2014 13:06:16Texting and driving
The issue is people are texting while they are driving
In 2011, 23% of all automobile accidents included texting and driving
Texting increases the chance of an accident by 23%
34% of people text and drive
car, phone, accident, dead person, injured person
A lot of people text and drive, and recently a lot of people have been in accidents resulting in death near my area

10/13/2014 13:10:41Self Harm/Suicide
Parents have talks with their children about alcohol abuse, homosexuality, birth control, and drug abuse, but parents don't typically teach their kids how to avoid self destructive behavior. When you're a teen, hormones can cause your emotions to be abnormal, resulting in abnormal behaviors. We also need to teach society that self harming and suicide is not something to joke about. Calling somebody "emo" because they have physical signs of self harm isn't a joke.
-1 in 12 teens self harm
-One person dies from suicide every 40 seconds
-In the last 45 years, suicide rates have gone up by 60%
-Teens with depression or anxiety are 3.7x more likely to self harm than those that don't have a mental illness
-Cutting and suicide is joked about regularly
-Knife
-Bottle of pills
I know a lot of people that suffer from depression and self harm. It's not something easy that they have to deal with, and the lack of awareness that is brought to it is less than ideal.

10/13/2014 13:10:52cyber bullying
I am doing cyber bullying. This is were people are bully others form online. They can do this in like make fake accounts and mess with them. The problem is people are getting bullied and some even kill them self.
Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once.

Over 80% of teens use a cell phone regularly, making it the most common medium for cyber bullying.

68% of teens agree that cyber bullying is a serious problem.

81% of young people think bullying online is easier to get away with than bullying in person.

90% of teens who have seen social-media bullying say they have ignored it. 84% have seen others tell cyber bullies to stop.

Only 1 in 10 victims will inform a parent or trusted adult of their abuse.
Computer, person crying, computer and someone, picture of someone getting bullied
I picked this because it is easy to bully and get bullied now that everyone has a smart phone.

10/13/2014 13:13:16Pollution
I believe we need to fix the dumping of waste in lakes and waters because fish have been dying as a result. We also need to dispose of trash properly so animals don't try to eat it and get sick or killed.
More than 1 million people don't have access to safe drinking water.
United States produces 30% of the world’s waste and uses 25 % of the worlds natural resources.
Children contribute to only 10% of the world’s pollution but are prone to 40% of global disease.
China is the world’s largest producer of carbon dioxide. United States is number 2.
Antarctica is the cleanest place on Earth.
earth, cans, lakes, fish, wild life, ocean, trash, landfill, waste, kids, factories, smog, humans,
because this is an issue that has been a problem for so long and we aren't doing much about it and we could end up like the humans in wall-e

10/13/2014 13:19:10Child Abuse
People that abuse there children should get abuse. because I don't know why people abuse there own children. So I thought that it could vice versa make them feel hoe the kids feel when they hit their own kid
5 children a day die because of child abuse
girls will be sexually abused
in 2010 1,537 children died from abused and neglect
48.5 boys and 51.5 girls get neglected and abused
14% of men and 51% of women become victims nearly at the same rate
14% of men and 36% of women are in prison because of child abuse
Most children are become victims of abuse and neglect at 18 months or younger
Alcoholic's
Thought this could make a change of this. People who abuse their kids that they should care and love

10/13/2014 13:28:32housing crisis
Because of the increasing price of housing, and the lower income tax of families, people are forced to live in slums. Without decent housing about 50 percent of the worlds population are living in slums. Funding an organization that builds simple yet sanitary homes for these families saves lives from disease and other things.
-many people are left without homes due to natural disasters, civil unrest or war.
- sum 827.6 millions people are living in urban slums
- lack of clean water or sanitation or exposure claims 1.8 million young children every year
-48.5 millions people are living in poverty
some third world slums, slums in america, trash in the streets, the families effected by poverty
Having seen what some people have to live with, everyday, makes you feel like you take everything for granted. I once spent a whole week just repairing a home for a man, and though it wasn't building from the ground up or an emergency, I still felt that this has a major impact on the world we live in.

10/13/2014 13:30:35Animal Testing
Many of the guidelines that are supposed to be used for animal testing are hardly met, making their treatment of animals highly unethical (if an animal survives they never get any medical treatment). The problems that need to be fixed are the actual treatment of animals and enclosure space.
Up to 90% of animals used in U.S. labs are not counted in the official statistics of animals tested

Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year.

Labs that use mice, rats, birds, reptiles and amphibians are exempted from the minimal protections under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).

92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work.

According to the Humane Society, registration of a single pesticide requires more than 50 experiments and the use of as many as 12,000 animals.
Monkey, Rat, laboratory equipment, dog, cat, animal enclosure
Animal testing has been around for a really long time and not much has been done to change how animals are being treated.

10/13/2014 13:52:45Domestic Violence
Girls who witness domestic violence are more vulnerable to abuse as teens and adults.
Boys who witness domestic violence are far more likely to become abusers of their partners and/or children as adults, thus continuing the cycle of violence in the next generation.
In many regions of the country, domestic violence isn't taken as seriously as it should.
Domestic abuse often escalates from threats and verbal abuse to violence.
Women experience more than 4 million physical assaults and rapes because of their partners, and men are victims of nearly 3 million physical assaults.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families.
Survivors of domestic violence face high rates of depression, sleep disturbances, anxiety, flashbacks, and other emotional distress.
Purple ribbon, Bruises, blood, tears, fists, belt, black eye, stitches, band-aid
I feel like domestic violence is overlooked and people should be brought to awareness about how intense this social issue is.

10/13/2014 13:58:13Children of Liberia
No children deserve to suffer in these ways and be treated the way they are being treated. Children should never be abused and that needs to be changed. I believe these children deserve homes where they will be loved and cared for. As that may seem impossible, I do think it would be possible for orphanages and schools to be built to try and help with these problems. As for fresh water, that's something that would be more difficult but Liberians do continually need help with that.
-Liberia is the #6 poorest country in the world
-Total Population is 3.9 million~44.1% of the population are children ages 0-14
-After the 14 years of Civil War (1989-2003), children's rights shattered. The country's youngest people were worst affected. Thousands were recruited as child soldiers, many were orphaned, and others were killed.
-340,000 Liberian Children are now growing up without parental care.
-Thousands of children are severely undernourished and one in every five Liberian children are underweight.
- 1 out of 4 children have access to drinking water
- 40% suffer from malnutrition
- Because of the poverty, child labor is prominent in every activity sector including its most dangerous forms. 21% of Liberian children are still exposed to dangerous working conditions
-Children are used as prostitutes, servants, pan handlers, street vendors, and as workers on rubber tree plantations, in stone quarries, and on diamond excavation sites.
Liberian children, homes, orphanages, schools, water, hunger, poverty stricken area, Liberia the country
I picked this issue because children from other nations that are in need have been an influence in my life. I have always had a desire to go out in this world and change things. I have a desire to help these children and make an impact in their lives and their community.

10/13/2014 14:09:01Internet Privacy
The public is incredibly uneducated about internet safety and privacy- it's incredibly easy for others to see and steal your information if not managed properly. Both laws to help with protection and programs to help assist in the teaching of the public are needed to make the web a safer, more secure environment for everyone.
21% of internet users have had an email or social networking account compromised.
11% have had important personal information stolen such as their Social Security Number, credit card, or bank account information.
41% of social media-using teens have experienced at least one negative outcome as a result of using a social networking site.
Only 10% of parents of children aged 10 and under had frank talks about appropriate online behavior and threats.
68% of internet users believe current laws are not good enough in protecting people’s privacy online.
Diaries, personal belongings, computers, smart phones, hackers, data, code, teenagers/kids, screens, social media, blogs, internet personas, spam, private information in general
I spend lots of time using digital devices such as phones, laptops, and video game consoles, and the fact that my personal information such as address and bank account funds are so easy to get to for hackers shocks me. It also worries me that people fall for silly tricks and scams on the internet so easily, and that they can get away with these foul deeds scott-free.

Cigarette smoking needs to be ended
Cigs give you lung cancer
Each day, more than 3,200 people under 18 smoke their first cigarette, and approximately 2,100 youth and young adults become daily smokers.
In 2011, an estimated 19% of U.S. adults were cigarette smokers.
In 2011, nearly 18% of high school boys were current cigar users.
More than 16 million people already have at least one disease from smoking.
Smoking slows down lung growth in children and teens.
Smokers are 30% to 40% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than nonsmokers.
Burnt lungs, an ashed cig, dead person, smoke, cigarette, butt, lighter
My aunt had lung cancer from smoking

World Hunger/The ACF International Organization
Just the overall issue of world hunger. The more benefited countries need to reach out and stop thinking about themselves for a little bit. There's people dying for food and were losing and wasting nearly 1.3 billion tonnes each year. That food could be going to the countries that need it....
805 million (1 in 9 people) people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life////Poor nutrition causes nearly half of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million each year////one out of six children (about 100 million) in developing countries are underweight////if women farmers had the same access to resources as men, the amount of hungry people in the world could reduced by up to 150 million////ACF International take part in activities such as emergency nutrition, longer-term food security, and water, sanitation and hygiene////ACF integrate programs with local and national systems so they can transform short-term interventions into long-term solutions//// ACF has 30 years of expertise in emergency situations of conflict, natural disaster, and chronic food insecurity//// ACF runs life-saving programs benefits seven million people each year////5,000+ professionals work in over 40 countries to carry out programs in nutrition, food security & livelihoods, and water, sanitation, & hygiene.
empty food bin, something with the hunger games, gun made out of food, globe with a big pile of junk(food that goes to waste), split picture: left- person throwing food into a trash can, right- inside the trash can is a bunch of hungry/starved people
I was going to pick something that had to do with animals, but I felt like that wasn't nearly as important as dying people who shouldn't be dying. There's no reason people should be dying when developed countries are throwing away so much food.

Unavoidable Driving Collision
Driving collision rate are somehow high. Drivers always have to follow road traffic safety.
11% of all drivers under the age of 20 were distracted and involved in fatal crash.36% of teens have been involved in a car crash because of someone else's distraction. In 2011, 3,331 were killed in crashes involving a distraction driver.
Texting while driving and drinking while driving are common causes of collision.
I get really bothered so much about driving collision. This makes me worry that collision will happen when other reckless drivers targets on a good driver.

10/16/2014 13:43:51Anti-marijuana
i think that young teens think marijuana is completely harmless because of the recent legalization. the facts are that its addicting and makes you lethargic, meaning you lose motivation. it can consume the life of teens.
-is a fat soluble, mind altering, highly toxic drug that remains in the body for up to one month
-Marijuana has the potential to cause problems in your daily life, or make existing problems worse
-can be addictive. It affects the brain’s reward system in the same way as all other drugs of addiction
Driving high, selling pot, drugs in school, car crashes caused by marijuana use
i picked it because it is a hot topic in todays word and people have many different opinions.

12/10/2015 13:42:31Womens Education
Education in third world countries is not handled well in my opinion. Educaton is clearly very important to people in the United States so why isn't it taken more seriously in a poor country where having an education could change the quality of life for many people?
Globally, 65 million girls are not in school. Girls with secondary education are 6 times less likely to be married as children. Women make up more than two-thirds of the world's 796 million illiterate people. Educated girls and women are less vulnerable to HIV infection, human trafficking and other forms of exploitation and more likely to marry later and have fewer children. There is also a 10 to 20% increase in women’s wages is associated with each additional year of schooling.
Womens Education --> Terrorism, third world coutries, poor countries
I picked this issue because I read a book called "Three Cups Of Tea" a couple of years ago and it really opened my eyes about child educaton in the Middle East.

1/6/2016 14:40:57Animal Abuse
Too many animals are abused by strangers and their owners. Animal cruelty is wrong and neds to be put to an end. Intentionally murdering an animal should be seen the same as intentionally killing another person.
- 64.5 percent of animal abuse cases involve dogs
- 18 percent of animal abuse cases involve cats
- Several acses involve drug cartels running narcotics through dogfighting operations.
- In one study of families under investigation for suspected child abuse, researchers found that pet abuse had occurred in 88 percent of the families under supervision for physical abuse of their children (DeViney, 1983).
-
Abandoned dogs, cats, abuseres pictures, anti animal abuse signs, ect,
Animal cruetly truly disgusts me. I have a very strong love for all life and it sicken me that people can purposfully cause such sweet creatures pain.
