09/10/2018Planetarium ShowMikkel Theiss Kristensen, Daniel Whitt, David Wait, Hannah TurnerScarborough Science and Engineering Week3 dayshttp://scarboroughengineeringweek.com926"I wanted to let you know that your students- Mikkel, David, Daniel and Hannah- have worked incredibly hard over the past 3 days at the Scarborough Science and Engineering Week and are a credit to you and the University. They showed tonnes of enthusiasm and entrepreneurialism. They dealt with hundreds of children and gave them a fantastic experience of the planetarium and solar telescopes. They coped with some unruly teenagers and managed admirably to include several young people with disabilities without being phased. Hannah and Daniel delivered their first sessions in the planetarium and did great jobs- you could see their confidence in engaging with the public building over the 3 days. Daniel has generated much interest from many schools ( some of whom we don’t currently have a relationship with in North Yorkshire) who would like to engage with the University further in this area. Proof of how successful this event has been is the fact that the University won the award for Most Informative Exhibit as voted for by the young people. Thank you for allowing them to take part in the event and please, pass on our sincere thanks to them as we thought they were fab J. I’ll send any data and photos of the event as soon I can pull them together."

Further, some 13% are from NCOP target wards (there’s only 1000 of these wards in the nation, and they represent the lowest achievement in the nation at GCSE level / gap analysis).
