In 1-3 sentences, describe a desired future state unbound by today's limitations. What does a sustainable Lafayette look like if we embodied climate leadership?

Lafayette is an inclusive, innovative and resilient campus driven by creativity, selflessness, education and an appreciation for the people and world around us.

Campus operations are obviously and outwardly zero-waste. The technical curriculum centers renewable and efficient technologies. Facilities Operations is rewarded for and funded to maintain and operate as sustainably as possible.

We will be an institution with a long (200 year) history of innovative leadership at the facilities, practices, and classroom levels. We’ll be a living laboratory where sustainable approaches are tried, demonstrated, investigated, and iterated. A place known for pushing innovation in sustainable practices, design, and technology forward. Not just a model of sustainability, but a driver.

Ecological integrity informs the ways we operate in class, around campus, and in our community.

The actions, decisions, and choices-daily, semesterly, annually—of the College Administration are guided by consideration of the environmental health of the campus and all of its members.

Sustainability ethos is central to our identity and reputation. Sust principles and climate action are embedded into operations at all levels, and are financially rewarded. We are net zero

All locally producible food and flowers used on Lafayette campus are either grown at lafarm or sourced from local farmers. Lafarm becomes a regional hub for regenerative ag in PA with connections to sister farms across the globe.

Completely self-sustainable campus, "off the grid," creating an energy surplus and able to provide/donate to communities in need. Accountability and commitment by all, second nature (students, faculty, staff, administration, trustees). "Why not?" ethos - innovator in sustainability, climate, environmental technologies and development

A sustainable Lafayette embeds best practices into everyday life and the college experience. This could include a policy for the ethical use of AI, which requires a large amount of energy resources. Lafayette could be a leader in this.

A desired future is a lifestyle that is aware of the privileges and responsibilities we as humans have for the next generation. The progressiveness of humanity can be great for humans but can hurt every living thing in a variety of ways. Understanding this phenomenon and fact but act towards avoiding given constraints by changing the way we speak, eat, and breathe among Lafayette’s campus.

See Lafayette take a leading role to cut down emissions as much as possible, put in impactful green energy sources all over campus and possibly off main campus. In addition to helping educate the people in Easton and make that change; either through educating or helping them cut down on emissions.

To spread and influence climate leadership to connecting communities around Lafayette College. To serve no only as a leader but as a facilitator of sustainability. To serve the community and individuals affected by the college

To me, a sustainable Lafayette looks like community involvement to support environmental coalition building in the Lehigh Valley, motivating students to be grassroots leaders for what they learn in the classroom.

Attention both locally and globally. Carbon AND ecosystem function. Lived experience in campus, embedded within our day to day lives and campus culture. It becomes normal to think sustainably throughout the day.

The vision needs to include something about Lafayette being a steward for environmental justice (EJ) for local and global communities. EJ is really the central underpinning of why we need to be sustainable (to preserve the globe for future generations) so it should be something central to the vision.

I’d like to maintain the community-oriented part of our current mission statement. Other concepts that come to mind are justice, reciprocity (a model where ecological & human benefits are flowing both ways), restoration (both ecological and human dimensions - a model that emphasizes inclusive participation and a variety of perspectives, education & curriculum).
