Step 1: Why is this research being conducted?
9
a. What is the authors’ objective and hypothesis?

In what section(s) of the article can you find the authors’ objective and hypothesis? This is likely to appear in more than 1 section.
It was found in the abstract. The objective was to prove that latinos that were more anger were more likely to participate in poltical activity. "We hypothesize that Latino voters who perceive Latinos as a racialized group and feel a sense of immigrant-
linked fate are more likely to hold negative views toward the Republican candidate, and feel angry during the 2016
election."

b. What is the gap in the previous research that the authors are trying to fill by conducting this study? In the first sentence of the abstract, group threats mobilze latinos nationally. "While evidence from California suggests that group threat mobilizes Latinos, nationally, there has never been a test case for this theory."
11
c. What theories (if any) are mentioned in the introduction and literature review? In the middle of the first introductory paragraph: "Other works have documented the anti-immigrant climate in California and suggested political mobilizing effects. However, nearly every study on group threat and mobilization since Pantoja et al. (2001) has focused on California (e.g., Bowler, Nicholson, and Segura 2006), or has only found strong effects in California (Ramirez 2013)."
