Art ShowcaseEdelweiss Vogel400Visual Arts Students—NCASA Scholastic Art Showcase is a competition that recognizes both the best individual artists and best art programs in North Carolina schools. Students are presented with a prompt and given about one month to create their submission. Media categories include painting, drawing, collage, photography, and other creative efforts. Submissions from top teams and students from each category advance to the State Finals and are evaluated by judges in a live exhibition. More details coming soon.

EnvirothonAlicia Driver301N/ASeptember 11, 2025One day a week during FLEX.The NC Envirothon is an exciting natural resource education program designed to challenge students in an interactive, outdoor competition where middle and high school teams (consisting of 3-5 students) are tested in areas of Aquatic Ecology, Current Environmental Issues, Soils and Land Use, Forestry, and Wildlife. Students learn to formulate arguments, research topics, practice oral presentation, and engage in respectful discourse, often culminating in participation in tournaments against other schools. The ultimate goal is to foster well-rounded individuals who can communicate effectively, think critically, and lead with confidence, skills beneficial for academic success and future careers.

We investigate various problem solving strategies, complete math challenges and have fun. Students complete various qualifying tests throughout the year and a school competition to qualify for the regional competition. Students who do well enough at the regional competition can qualify for the state competition.

This group will have about 12 members based upon recommendations from their ELA teachers. The writing styles focused on will be argumentative, informational, narrative, and problem solution. The competition is in February.
