I design and run a number of maker camps in Pakistan where both girls and boys participate, but girls are generally less in number. When they do get the hang of it, they usually outperform the boys!||www.facebook.com/learnobots|

How do I reward people for pointing out where I am wrong or where there are better solutions? How do I listen for "what you are asking us to do is unreasonable" and other indirect statements?|

What works from my experience is asking for something close to their expected volume with the promise of future orders and try to get samples to in the quantity one can actually use.
For some weird reason they seem to be quite reluctant to offer small quantities over the Alibaba internal system, but seem to almost insist on paypal.
I never seen any of these sample offers to be even near the cheap shipping costs Aliexpress / Banggood / etc... give you. Do the aliexpress merchants have some volume contract that the sales teams on Alibaba don't have or is there another reason?

How viable is it now to subcontract this assembly to a factory in China? Just how much more expensive it is than assembling a board with just SMDs, like, is it crazy expensive or reasonably expensive? =)|

|jlbrian7||https://hackaday.io/jlbrian7||What are working conditions like in shenzen? I worked for a metal stamping company that made a lot of motor core laminations, and I had seen images of metal stamping facilities in china where a person was smashed in the machine (really gory). I was told that the mess was cleaned up in a matter of a couple of hours and they were back to work. From your experience, could that be an accurate picture of what it is like in order to keep prices low?|

It's fun as a place to visit if your a geek, but not much Chinese culture. The further inline, even in Guangho (sp?) there was less western influence.|
Good to know. Thanks.
