Explanatory notes
12
As of April 2022, the DUP, TUV and Aontú oppose the Abortion (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2020.
13
Sinn Féin supports access to abortions within "a limited gestational period" which does not specifically relate to the Abortion (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2020. Changes to Sinn Féin's position must be raised and voted on at their Ard Fheis.
14
The SDLP, the Alliance Party and the Ulster Unionist Party allow a "vote of conscience" on abortion, thus their members may express a variety of views.
15
The PUP is a "pro-choice party," however the party states that candidates are not whipped on the particular issue of the Abortion (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2020.
16
The Green Party and People Before Profit are pro-choice and in favour of the Abortion (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2020.
17
Independent candidates are determined by their individual views.

Working methods in compiling this spreadsheet
20
Where political parties have expressed a singular stance with regard to abortion reform, we have attributed that stance to every MLA candidate from that party.
21
With regard to independents and candidates from parties that treat abortion as a conscience issue, we have recorded their responses on an individual basis.
22
We have contacted independent/"issue of conscience" candidates through either email, telephone or messages on their social media platforms. We have left the entry blank for candidates who are yet to reply.
23
24
Further, with this spreadsheet we acknowledge that conversations and lobbying are ongoing and that MLA candidate stances on abortion can and do change due to the hard work of pro-choice lobbyists.
25
With that in mind, this data is correct up until 27 April 2022. If any MLA candidates wish to get in touch to add/update/amend their details, please email: mlasurvey2022@gmail.com
