Sections 1118 of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires the involvement of parents of participating children in the design and implementation of Title I projects. NCPS Policy 1310/4002 requires every Principal to develop a Parent Engagement Plan as well. A local educational agency may receive funds under this part only if such agency implements programs, activities, and procedures for the involvement of parents in programs assisted under this part consistent with this section. Such programs, activities, and procedures shall be planned and implemented with meaningful consultation with parents of participating children. Reference: Policy Code: 1310/4002 Parental Involvement

1Each school under this part shall convene an annual meeting at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I (if applicable) and the right of the parents to be involved. 2Each school shall offer a flexible number of meetings, such as meetings in the morning or evening, and may provide, with Title I or Local funds, transportation, child care, or home visits, as such services relate to parental involvement. Plan to ensure two-way communication and parents input in school decisions.

3Parents should be involved in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in planning, review, and improvement of schoolwide programs, including the planning, review, and improvement of the school parental involvement policy and the joint development of the schoolwide program plan (if applicable). NEDA parents are classified as learning coaches and have responsibilities in monitoring and supervising their children/students. Expectations are set for frequent monitoring of Campus Parent, and resources and tools are shared to assist parents with assisting their children with reading and math.

4Parents must be provided with timely information about programs under this part; and a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet. Plan for promotion of resources to aid parents in understanding their child’s academic performance.

Letters and other communication are sent to parents as required by the district. Weekly communication is sent to parents to notify them of upcoming events and to keep them abreast of all parent-teacher conference opportunities along with onsite testing.

5If requested, schools must provide parents opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.

7Each school shall have a voice in the development with parents a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve State standards.

The 25-26 Student-Parent-Staff compact was reviewed based on feedback from Principals, Central Office, the Teacher Advisory Committee, the Parent Advisory Committee, the Principal Advisory Committee, and the Student Advisory Committee.

9Parents will be provided materials and training to help them work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement. Parents must also be provided with information that promotes student health awareness. Parents must be provided an opportunity to participate in parental training.
