Why aren't you advocating for common sense crime fighting measures , like advocating for a ban on ski masks like the Washington Post just wrote about on its editorial page? It seems like everything I read from you puts further demands on an already overstretched CPD leadership, while you're not doing enough to focus on building up the profession and getting more people interested in joining the force. While there's no doubt that substance abuse and homelessness contribute to crime, this should not be YOUR top priority as the District Council. It involves the CTA, specifically the Number 36 Broadway bus. Since Covid, the route has been very unreliable time wise. There is a lot of racial anger on the bus. There are serious mental health issues on the bus. There are cleanliness issues on the bus where the smell is horrific. I had a frightening incident on the bus where I needed help because of a predator and I begged the passengers to get the driver and no one moved, Many times the problems are at the front of the bus and the driver knows but will not intervene. It is a route that needs security on board. I have been forced through many bad incidents to stop using that route. I don’t think the problem exists much south of Belmont. But further north on the route the racial and mental health problems are rampant on that bus. I also want to say that the problem of homelessness here in Uptown seems to have fallen through the cracks with the migrant problem. I am neither a migrant nor a homeless person but I resent the homeless citizens not receiving the same kind of benefits as the non citizen migrants. It has been very unfair.
