November 9thRobotics in NevadaCaroline Hanson, FIRST Nevada, EDAWNCaroline Hanson (c.hanson@firstnevada.org), Northern Nevada CoordinatorDeeYesCaroline Hanson has been an educator for more than 25 years, combining her humanities background with a passion for STEM education to create enriched classroom experiences using LEGO Mindstorms robotics, WeDo and hands-on problem-solving activities. She is currently the Regional Robotics Coordinator for EDAWN, the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, focusing on the connection between K-12 robotics and the local workforce. Additionally, she coordinates the FIRST LEGO League program in Northern Nevada. She recently retired from Aspen Middle School where she coached FIRST teams, coordinated a regional robotics tournament, and served on the LEGO Education Advisory Panel as a middle-grade educator.
Peter Hanson also retired after more than 25 years, combining his love of STEM, science, math as a hands-on learning educator. He has been a robotics coach, math educator, science educator, and science outreach coordinator before moving into a maker-oriented position for grades 5 through 8. He is currently focusing on his two passions of radio-controlled airplanes and bicycling. Earlier this fall he completed a bucket list trip, riding his bike from San Francisco to San DIego along Highway 1. He also explored the Black Rock Desert on his mountain bike with a local cycling group.

Education Program Coordinator

Office: (775) 682-9782
Email: annamiller@unr.edu
DeeYesAnna is a Reno native and loves the community as much as she loves the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains and Great Basin Desert. She graduated from UNR in the spring of 2019, where she studied ecohydrology and Spanish and was involved in numerous campus organizations. Anna has been involved with water resource monitoring programs on multiple National Forests, and has diverse experience in education: from instructing elementary students in environmental science in the field, to teaching English language classes in Spain. While a student, she co-founded the UNR chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and participated in the 2018 conference regarding soil health in California’s agricultural systems. She expanded her experience with farming through a year-long AmeriCorps service at the Desert Farming Initiative and is enthusiastic to combine her passions for people and the environment in her new role as DFI’s Education Program Coordinator. https://naes.unr.edu/dfi/profile.aspx?ID=1669
