2 | Senator | Lisa | Murkowski | R | AK | Neutral | All weekend long my staff and I have been monitoring implementation of President Trump's recent EO related to immigration - consulting wiht both the Dept. of Homeland Security and stakeholders in Alaska. Like others, we are trying to understand the remifications of this action, including the suspension of the refugee resettlement program and its impact on Alaskans and those coming to our community. We have spoken with Catholic Social Services of Alaska about the effect of the EO in our state. President Trump has made it clear that the security of Americans is his top priority. I agree. I also believe U.S. immigration policy must strike a balance between national security and our values as Americans and that how we implement policy matters. I will be pressing the Administration to address the needs of those impacted by the implementation of this order while we work on the broader policy. | https://twitter.com/lisamurkowski/status/826132913683124225 | 2022 | 709 Hart Senate Office Building | 202-224-6665 | 907-271-3735 | https://www.murkowski.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contact | @lisamurkowski | 510 L Street, Suite 600, Anchorage, AK 99501

Our intelligence community and citizens in communities across Arkansas and in the U.S. lack confidence in the programs we use to vet refugees fleeing from persecution and war-torn countries like Syria. I have great confidence in Secretary Kelly and look forward to working with him to secure our borders. 8 | Senator | Jeff | Flake | R | AZ | Opposed | President Trump and his administration are right to be concerned about national security, but it’s unacceptable when even legal permanent residents are being detained or turned away at airports and ports of entry. 9 | Senator | John | McCain | R | AZ | Opposed | Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation. It is clear from the confusion at our airports across the nation that President Trump’s executive order was not properly vetted. We are particularly concerned by reports that this order went into effect with little to no consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security. Such a hasty process risks harmful results. We should not stop green-card holders from returning to the country they call home. We should not stop those who have served as interpreters for our military and diplomats from seeking refuge in the country they risked their lives to help. And we should not turn our backs on those refugees who have been shown through extensive vetting to pose no demonstrable threat to our nation, and who have suffered unspeakable horrors, most of them women and children. Ultimately, we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism. At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies. Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred. This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security. | http://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2017/1/statement-by-senators-mccain-graham-on-executive-order-on-immigration | 2022 | 241 Russell Senate Office Building | 202-224-2235 | 602-952-2410 | https://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contact-form | @SenJohnMcCain | 2201 East Camelback Road, Suite 115, Phoenix, AZ 85016

20 | Senator | Johnny | Isakson | R | GA | Skeptical | Two separate pieces from interviews -1) "President Trump and his administration have been taking steps to fulfill his campaign promises, and he’s right that we need to strengthen our national security and improve the vetting process for people coming into our country. Unfortunately, some important aspects of the process to ensure that this temporary travel ban could be implemented smoothly were overlooked. I hope that President Trump will consult with the national security team he has assembled with the advice and consent of the Senate, so that security measures are properly implemented and do not infringe on the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans. I also believe that America should continue to be welcoming to refugees who are fleeing war and persecution and who share America’s ideals and values" 2) "I do think in the case of the immigration issue that the mandate over the weekend was not very well vetted and the people designed to carry out the mandate didn’t know what the mandate was, and when asked some of the questions it didn’t sound like the White House knew what it was exactly. They’ve amended it a couple times already. 55 | Senator | Thom | Tillis | R | NC | Opposed, but only on technicalities | As we offer safety to refugees, we must also be mindful of the sad reality that radical Islamic terrorists are actively attempting to infiltrate refugee programs to enter Western nations. The FBI director has warned Congress that the United States lacks the capability to properly vet all Syrian refugees. This is a significant vulnerability, and strengthening the screening of refugees is a matter of national security. While the executive order does take immediate action aimed at tightening the refugee screening process, there is a lot of confusion surrounding the order, particularly given the instances of green card holders inexplicably being denied entry back into the United States. 59 | Senator | Benjamin | Sasse | R | NE | Opposed | The President is right to focus attention on the obvious fact that borders matter. At the same time, while not technically a Muslim ban, this order is too broad. There are two ways to lose our generational battle against jihadism by losing touch with reality. The first is to keep pretending that jihadi terrorism has no connection to Islam or to certain countries. That’s been a disaster. And here's the second way to fail: If we send a signal to the Middle East that the U.S. sees all Muslims as jihadis, the terrorist recruiters win by telling kids that America is banning Muslims and that this is America versus one religion. Both approaches are wrong, and both will make us less safe. But targeting women, children and families who are fleeing the very same terrorists we are fighting against is wrong, will not make America safer, and may actually undermine our long-term security. | https://twitter.com/SenSherrodBrown/status/825431416984977409 | 713 Hart Senate Office Building | 202-224-2315 | 216-522-7272 | http://www.brown.senate.gov/contact/ | @SenSherrodBrown | 801 West Superior Ave., Suite 1400, Cleveland, OH 44113

72 | Senator | James | Inhofe | R | OK | Support | Excerpt - President Trump's executive order follows through on the promises made on the campaign trail to secure our country and protect our citizens. This is not a Muslim ban, as the measure suspends all refugee admittance for 120 days and suspends the issuance of visas to nationals of seven countries for 90 days. Time and again terrorists have stated their intent to infiltrate refugee populations in order ot spread their ideology and terror throughout the West, as has already happened in Europe. Frthermore, the pause on visa applicants for countries that Condress and the Departments of State an dHomeland Security have determined as areas of concern to national security is reasonable given the unrest and the state of instability in each of those countries. | https://twitter.com/jiminhofe/status/826110126671200261 | 2020 | 205 Russell Senate Office Building | 202-224-4721 | 918-748-5111 | www.inhofe.senate.gov/contact | @jiminhofe | 1924 S. 79 | Senator | Sheldon | Whitehouse | D | RI | Opposed | President Trump's broad brush executive order on refugees doesn't discern women and children, local supporters and employees who helped American troops and have to flee for safety, or other good reasons to keep a safe refugee process operating. None of the 9/11 terrorists came from these countries, and the last time "America First" folks closed our borders it was to European Jews fleeing the Third Reich. This is dangerous territory for rash decisions. The blunt signal this makes to the Arab world will help Russia and hurt us, and we all lose when the United States loses its standing as a place for children and families fleeing war and persecution to find peace and a chance to build a new life. | https://twitter.com/SenWhitehouse/status/825465893920636930 | 530 Hart Senate Office Building | 202-224-2921 | 401-453-5294 | www.whitehouse.senate.gov/contact/email-sheldon | @SenWhitehouse | @SheldonforRI | 170 Westminister St., Ste. 200, Providence, RI 02904
80 | Senator | Lindsey | Graham | R | SC | Opposed | Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security. | http://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=587F2A2D-8A47-48F7-9045-CF30F0A77889 | 2020 | 290 Russell Senate Office Building | 202-224-5972 | (864) 250-1417 | https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/e-mail-senator-graham | @GrahamBlog | @LindseyGrahamSC | 130 South Main Street, 7th Floor, Greenville, SC 29601

84 | Senator | Lamar | Alexander | R | TN | Opposed | This vetting proposal itself needed more vetting. More scrutiny of those traveling from war-torn countries to the United States is wise. But this broad and confusing order seems to ban legal, permanent residents with ‘green cards,’ and might turn away Iraqis, for example, who were translators and helped save lives of American troops and who could be killed if they stay in Iraq. And while not explicitly a religious test, it comes close to one which is inconsistent with our American character. | http://www.alexander.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/pressreleases?ID=C007E222-C999-4341-AB41-7E5A2A752F50 | 2020 | 455 Dirksen Senate Office Building | 202-224-4944 | (423) 752-5337 | https://www.alexander.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/email | @SenAlexander | @LamarAlexander | Joel E. 87 | Senator | Ted | Cruz | R | TX | Supportive | Excerpt - We live in a dangerous world, and for eight long years the Obama administration remained willfully blind to the threat of radical Islamic terrorism, admitting tens of thousands of refugees whom the FBI expressly told Congress they could not be certain were not terrorists. That Obama policy made no sense, and it made America less safe. If we are serious about combating the threat of radical Islam, we must reform and strengthen our refugee programs to ensure proper vetting of those entering our country—especially when they are coming from nations that are hotbeds of terror. 88 | Senator | Orrin | Hatch | R | UT | Neutral | The present geopolitical situation in the war-torn Middle East presents a number of difficult questions regarding the intersection of our efforts to protect Americans from the threat of terrorism and our legal and moral obligations to help the innocent victims of these terrible conflicts. In particular, as a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am acutely aware that many of my own ancestors in not-too-distant past were themselves refugees, religious minorities violently driven from their homes and who undertook a long and dangerous journey to build a new life in a distant land." "President Trump has described the motivation of his recent order as a means '[t]o temporarily reduce investigative burdens on relevant agencies.' In this spirit, I strongly urge the new administration to move quickly to tailor its policy on visa issuance as narrowly as possible, delivering on our security needs while reducing unnecessary burdens on the vast majority of visa-seekers that present a promise—not a threat—to our nation. 90 | Senator | Tim | Kaine | D | VA | Opposed | I am appalled by the cruelty the Trump Administration has demonstrated over the past 24 hours. By indefinitely suspending the Syrian refugee program and imposing a religious test at our borders, he has defied everything our nation stands for. He's also weakened our national security by empowering ISIL's narrative that the West is at war with Islam and encouraging the listed countries to further cooperate with adversaries like Russia and Iran. For decades, America has acted as the Good Samaritan and extended a welcoming hand to those who yearn to be free. We should continue to thoroughly vet all refugees who enter the United States, but we cannot abandon our core principles. 93 | Senator | Bernie | Sanders | I | VT | Opposed | Demagogues survive politically by fostering hatred, especially against minorities. They try to divide people up by their religion, country of origin or the color of their skin. By temporarily barring all immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries and giving preference to Christian refugees, Trump is doubling down on the hateful rhetoric he used during his campaign. Further, he is breaking with the historic tradition of the U.S. and turning his back on those men, women and children fleeing violence, oppression, and starvation. 9 | Matthew | Denn | Democrat | DE | Opposed | I was asked for my opinion today on the President's Executive Order on immigration. My opinion is simple: it is a betrayal of basic American values. One of the considerations in our evaluation will be other legal challenges to the Executive Order that are already pending. | https://www.facebook.com/matt.denn | 2019 | P.O. But as a state we can and have had a role to play. California has enacted several protective measures for the undocumented: the Trust Act, lawful driver's licenses, basic employment rights and non-discriminatory access to higher education. We may be called upon to defend those laws and defend them we will. 7 | Colorado | John Hickenlooper | Democratic | January 11 2011 | 2019 (term limits) | Opposed | The vast majority of refugees admitted to the United States are families, mainly comprised of women and children, and all refugees are admitted only after they make it through the world's toughest vetting program. Many of the refugees helped US forces, often in violent and chaotic circumstances, risking their lives in the process. We can and should continue to work with the federal government and Homeland Security to ensure that the verification system used to screen refugees is as stringent as possible. But we can do that while we honor our values as Americans. Religious tests and blanket bans diminish those values and injure our international reputation. The executive order serves as a powerful recruiting tool for our enemies and needlessly antagonizes our allies around the world. We believe that Americans will be less safe, at home and abroad, if the executive order is fully implemented. 17 | Kansas | Sam Brownback | Republican | January 10 2011 | 2019 (term limits) | Support | It has always been my desire for America to be a haven for those facing religious persecution and a refuge for those seeking freedom. But, we are also a sovereign nation, and as Governor of the state, the safety and security of Kansans has been my top priority. That is why I previously issued an executive order barring state resources from being utilized to relocate those from countries compromised by terrorism. “Now, President Trump is taking action to ensure the integrity of the refugee program, calling for the implementation of thorough and comprehensive vetting, seeking to ensure true refugees are coming to America, while blocking those intent on doing us harm. Unlike the previous administration, President Trump is inviting state and local governments to play a broader role in the refugee resettlement process. We all benefit from the shared experiences of our partners from around the world. 1 | TIPS FOR CALLING SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES |
2 | 1. Give your name, city, and zip code, and say "I don't need a response." That way, they can quickly confirm you are a constituent, and that they can tally you down without taking the time to input you into a response database. |
3 | 2. Your tally will not be marked down unless you can rattle off a city and zip from the state, or are calling from an in-state area code. Do your research before making out of state calls.I |
4 | 3. State the issue, state your position. "I am opposed to a ban on Muslims entering the US." "I am in favor of stricter gun control legislation including background checks." "I am in favor of the Affordable Care Act." That's it. Help them out by being simple and direct. |
5 | 4. Be nice! Thank them for their hard work answering the phones, because without them our Senators could not represent us. |
6 | 5. Pick one issue each day, use this format (I am in favor of _____ or I am oppose to ______), and call your 2 Senators and 1 Representative on their DC and State Office lines |
7 | "Hi, my name is Chris, I'm a constituent from City, zip code XXXXX. I don't need a response. I am opposed to any ban on Muslims entering the United States and I strongly encourage the Senator to please oppose implementation of any such ban. Thanks for your hard work answering the phones!” |
8 | Script for calls regarding the immigration EO (Taken from: http://muslimmatters.org/2017/01/25/executive-order-muslim-ban-know/) |
9 | Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent of Representative _______/ Senator _________. I’m calling because I’m concerned about President Donald Trump signing an executive order restricting immigration from Muslim majority countries and ending the Syrian refugee resettlement program. This executive order goes against our shared American values of religious tolerance, diversity, and nondiscrimination.I’m calling to see if Rep. _________ / Senator ___________ plans to publicly oppose Trump’s decision to sign this executive order?[If there are any questions, reiterate your concerns.] Yes, please express to Rep. ______/ Sen. ________ that Trump’s executive order doesn’t represent our values, and that I am asking him/her to take a principled, public stand against this kind of intolerance. Thanks for your time. |

14 | Script for calls regarding Jeff Sessions as AG |
15 | Everyone, as you're calling your Senator, let them know that you oppose the confirmation of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. Donald Trump just fired Attorney General Yates because she ordered the Justice Department to not defend the ban. By delaying / denying the confirmation, we'll stall out opposition to the current legal injunctions that are keeping refugees and immigrants safe. Here's why we should oppose him: One week in, it’s clear the Trump presidency will be an assault on the civil rights of all Americans, and especially minority groups most in need of protection under the law. The role of Attorney General takes on added significance, as we need someone willing to stand up to Trump’s divisive and often times illegal impulses. Jeff Sessions is not that person. Trump issues a thinly veiled Muslim ban; during the election, Sessions supported a Muslim travel ban. Trump makes up stories of voter fraud to set the stage for future acts of voter suppression; Sessions has a history of disenfranchising African-American voters during his time as Attorney General of Alabama. Pick a current civil rights issue (LBGT rights, prison sentences, etc) and Sessions is on the wrong side of history. |

1 | Greetings! My name is Jenn B. Caballero and I started this list to help us all hold our politicians more accountable during this crucial time. I hope you find it useful. I did not expect it to be shared so widely and I am extremely humbled. I am now working with a few great people to maintain this page as a living resource. We will do our best to keep this information up to date. I'd like to add that this document is not affiliated with my employer or any employer of the people listed below.
2 | If someone from the Google Sheets team comes across, this please, please contact me. Your chat function and forums have not been helpful for me!
3 | FAQ | |
4 | How do I know if your information is up to date? | We'll keep a "last updated" box in the upper left of each page, with the exception of the Reps tab, which has a separate column for each congressman. |
5 | What are your sources? | Check the "statement link" column for links to where we pulled quotes. |
6 | How often will you update this information? | We're committed to updating daily. |
7 | Can I have access to this sheet? | Many of you have sent messages asking for access. To maintain the integrity of the information, I will not be granting edit access to anyone beyond the select few I've already contacted who are assisting with the maintenance of this document. |
8 | How can I contact you if I spot an error? | Email ResistanceSpreadsheet@gmail.com |
9 | Can I share this? | Yes, of course! |
10 | Can you freeze the top row so it's easier for me to scroll? | I've done that on my end but not sure why so many people are having trouble. Apologies for the inconvenience. I know how annoying that must be! |
11 | I really wish you sorted it by [X] instead of [Y]. Can you send me a sortable version? | In the upper left corner there is a little button with a funnel icon. If you click it, you should be able to sort the data for your own use without changing the view of everyone else in the document. |
12 | Why am I having a hard time copying/pasting/downloading this document? | Honestly, I don't know. I was mindful of this when I first created the spreadsheet and wanted to make sure people could extract the information and/or use the template so they could use it how they see fit. I'm troubleshooting and open to suggestions on alternate ways to allow downloads. I apologize for the inconvenience. |
13 | The Reps page isn't loading for me. Why? | I'm aware of this issue and trying to figure out the problem. |
14 | I want to create a similar spreadsheet for [X] issue. Can you send me a template? | Sure thing! Here's a template of Senators, Reps, AGs, and Governors with contact info. Please share your data with me when completed so I can link it here. |
15 | It'd be great if you could track [X Issue] [X group of people] [X data]. What do you think? | I'm working on devising the best way to spread as much information as possible. I appreciate the suggestions and will do my best. There is an "Additional Issues" tab where I'll post links to additional spreadsheets as they are completed. |
