Get the decision makers to listen to local bodies and not ride roughshod over them. Increase park and ride facilities, stop vehicles using the old bridge and offer electric taxis connecting buses and trains and park and ride cheaply

Whitby is being hollowed out by the tourism industry. Measures need to be applied that protect the interests of Whitby people- in housing in particularly.

Whitby has an element of community cohesion- though far from perfect. I would support any measures that help to build community, such as enhancing the town centre that has been degraded with increased out-of-town and online shopping; prioritising independent essential shops (green grocers, DIY rather than another micro-pub or nail bar!); investing in community venues, such as the Coliseum; investing in resources to support our young people.

Whitby is beautiful, but lacks access to good quality green space. This should be a priority for the Neighbourhood Plan. Similarly walking and cycling infrastructure in the town is woeful. Knowing that we should be moving towards more Active Transport and reducing our dependence on cars (for health and environmental reasons), significant emphasis should be put on: 1. improving the walking and cycling infrastructure- prioritising walking and cycling over cars in the town- for example permanently closing the swing bridge to most vehicular traffic. 2. improving public transport links to permit its routine use- both locally, and further afield. 3. severely restricting town centre car parking (and enhancing the P&R facility) effectively so that visitors are dissuaded from bringing their cars into town (with obvious exceptions e.g. people with disabilities). This would improve the amenity value of Whitby, facilitating active transport, reduce air pollution; and reduce RTCs. 4. Apply a blanket 20mph throughout the town- for all the same reasons as 3. above.

Free parking for locals. Electric charging points needed but dont put them where pedestrians need access (e.g west cliff car park next to registry office). Harbourside / marina car park could be made greener and more pleasant walking area, plus more toilets there.If adding gardens make them natural and not tacky metal sculptures (e.g cliff st).

Traffic. Stakesby Rd accident waiting to happen. Parking both sides of road but still have buses / coaches / lorries - should have double yellow on one side. P&R is needed on East Side. Stop parking both sides of side streets.

Beaches and historic aspects. Preserve green space and leisure services. Extensions and piers need repairs immediately otherwise Whitby will disappear. Historical places, church St need to stay in keeping with old town.

No choice for secondary education. No social housing so our young adults cant stay in the town and bring up their families. Drug problem needs addressing. No affordable homes since Whitby wages below national average. Very little assisted living provided for young people with learning difficulties.

Choice of education - new build school should be provided invluding SEND provision. New social housing estate built on Whitby School site which would house young families. Better public transport.

The increasing number of holiday lets in what were residential areas causing noise and parking nuisances and at times making the permanent residents feel under siege. Young people born in Whitby have very little chance of affording their own homes here as property going on sale is too expensive and usually bought as 2 nd home/ holiday let. Bring in a requirement to apply for a “ change of use” to commercial/ business for any property not permanently lived in by the owner that is used for holiday letting and make them have to reach the same safety and hygiene standards that apply to B&B and Hotels

Improve transport links for locals, it is galling to see buses running every 15 minutes for tourists when the buses we need to get to work are infrequent and often delayed or cancelled without notice

That previous SBC Council ignored Whitby and failed to manage and maintain, resulting in to much tourist accomodation & AirBNB's changing the towns dunamics.

Pannet Park and West Cliff are excellent open spaces for everyone to enjoy. All public green space should be retained. Whitby is a town with a small footprint whch is very crowded during the summer and on holiday weekends so all public areas are necessary for the health and wellbeing of townsfolk and visitors.

Traffic access along Pier Road puts pedestrians (particularly children) at risk. It would be reasonable to allow delivery vehicles access daily from 07:00 to 10:00. No public vehicle access.
Public toilets should be free. Why not introduce tourist tax / surcharge of £1 per night per adult to be added onto bill of everyone staying in B&B and Hotels in Whitby area to help pay for upkeep, proceeds to be submitted monthly by each business via BACS into dedicated Council account. ( Tourist tax is common in some European countries, why not here?)

Why not have an additional secure pedestrian only bridge across the river ( in Spital Beck area at end of Church street leading across river to/from coach park. It would need to be high enough above river to be navigable at hightide by vessels requiring passage. Suspect that would not be very high so access could be via ramps at each end, this would enable wheel chair access and allow central area to be elevated for vessels (canoes, shallow draught vessels?) to pass underneath.

Out of town 24 hr secure parking, extended hours to park and ride and B&Bs/hotels including this parking in fee. Scratchcards should be stopped, cars are parked up for days not being moved taking up valuable space for locals.

The town centre. Pannet Park. The Cinder track. Pavilion and Coleseum.

Pubs sprawling onto streets. Safety on the Cinder Track is a real concern.

We need police on the streets to make everyone especially young people feel safer. We need better communication about cultural events in the town. Individual websites aren't very good.

I like Whitby in winter, when you can appreciate its history without being mown down by tourists or dragged along with them. Residents need to be protected.

Tourists and their cars. The problem is that they want to park as close to the town as they can and sod the residents who need to park their own cars outside their own houses. Let’s build a big wall around Whitby and charge non residents to enter. Instead of building the maritime centre just make the whole marina parking area into a two storey car park, charge for parking. All residential areas should be made parking for residents only and strictly enforced by employing more traffic officers.

Make it independent, the voices of two councillors representing Whitby on NYC are lost in the wilderness. Whitby Urban and Rural Councils worked extremely well, instead of our money being in any area except Whitby it would used just for the urban and rural areas of Whitby. We wouldn’t be paying for County Hall or their services.

The area's history, architecture & lack of high-rise buildings.

Building houses on green-belt farmland, which we need to produce our food.

Paying 40p (to go up to 50p?) to use a toilet. The bus station toilet encourages you to put 20p in the slot, yet the door is permanently locked, without a notice of explanation. Everywhere else you can at least be sure of facilities in bus and railway stations, but not in Whitby. This is a basic human necessity and lack of free facilities encourages waste, smell and poor hygeine. In Scotland virtually every village and town has free facilities - why can't we?

Public transport - Arriva are not fit for purpose and should be held to account for the number of missing buses and for timetables at bus stops (and even in the bus station) which have not been updated for years. What we have in winter cannot be called a bus SERVICE , and in the school holidays when the place is packed, the hourly bus between Whitby and Scarborugh does not even stop to allow you to board, yet Arriva do not schedule additional (essential) buses.

I dislike the use of alcahol on public transport as it is the cause of bad, rowdy behaviour.

Build houses only on brownfield sites. Zero tolerance on drunken behaviour and littering. Charge full fare for dogs on buses.

I like Whitby's historic architecture and harbour and how the town appeals to tourists and locals alike. I like community facilities such as the leisure centre and library and believe these should be supported to ensure their future..

I dislike the architecture of the new housing developments and do not feel that they add to the special nature of Whitby and its historic buildings.

More careful consideration on the design of housing estates so they are more unique to the history of Whitby and suit the setting. Help further the development of businesses around and connected to the harbour and it's trade. Encourage tourism to boost the local economy. Ensure community facilities remain open.

The amount of holiday homes and greedy developers building ugly homes without considering the look and feel of the town. The lack of doctors/dentists/banks and infrastructure to support the growing number of new homes is a major concern. Parking is a big problem. Not very much to keep young people from leaving to seek cheaper housing and better paid jobs.

Park and ride on the east side. Restriction on holiday homes. More affordable housing, but not if they are going to be ugly like the new builds being built atm. More help for young people to start their own businesses in the town.

Why does anything need changing, leave Whitby as it is although a new swimming pool would be great.

The history and scenery are both interesting and beautiful. I like the quantity of local family businesses, but big chains are creeping in.

Lack of parking for locals . Especially living on Church Street. I think church street car park should be all for permit holders. Only for residents and business owners. Just like the tin gaught car park. Also the turning circle is a complete waste of space - that could be put back to private car parking space for residents.

I think whitby needs a space for local artisans, market traders and local producers. Like a little French style food market, artisan wines, cheeses, food stalls , crafts , fruit and veg . Whitby has to many chip shops. I think it lowers the tone and attracts less money to the town. Whitby needs to attract more than just dog walkers only buying fish and chips. We need actual spenders .

Football fields and the green space left. So the children will have a place to play football and other sports.

All the new houses being built in the cheapest way possible.

Affordable housing and 2 hours of free parking for local people, in the town.

The character and the locally owned businesses.

Road infrastructure is terrible. Parking is a big problem for locals in busy periods. House and rental prices not realistic for the wages of locals

Parking definitely needs improvement. Hospital and health services need to be kept in place. Whitby seems to be losing access to essential services

Parking, it is really hard when you live on the outskirts of whitby and you need to pop into town for a quick appointment. I think all the town center streets and cliff top should be just for whitby residents and the holiday makers should have to park at the park and ride. We need 2 more park and rides, one located on the industrial estate, and a bigger one on the current site.

Whitby needs more control over its NHS, we have the most wonderful team at the MIU but they are limited with resorted and no dr. Currently if you need same day bloods then it's a drive to Scarborough hospital for a 7 hour wait (I had to have this yesterday), living in whitby, we pay a massive premium in our council tax. I pay more for my small 3bed social house then my friend with a large mortgaged 3 bedroom house in Essex. Even my social rent is twice what others pay in the country. Yet we don't get the services we are paying for.

I love the harbour and pier road area but it needs to be cleaned up and made to look better same wit Baxtergate

I dislike the lack of proper shopping and dining other than fish & chips, pubs and charity shops.

Allow more retail to come to Whitby it won't hurt the charm to have updated business and even chain restaurants. Stop worrying about how it would look in town it's 2024 and parts of Whitby haven't changed hardly at all in decades.

I love our small town and it should be protected from over development and chain franchises . Whitby has always been quirky and unique and that needs protecting or we will end up just another town with a McDonald’s and all the other (rubbish) chains

Dislike how every other house Is a holiday let, dislike how the holiday lets are snapped up by out of towners pushing the house prices sky high so they are unaffordable for anyone starting out on the property ladder. Dislike how all our green spaces are being built on with shoddy houses for out of towners. Dislike how Whitby is becoming a town for tourists and not
for locals anymore, we are loosing our sense of community.

That new roundabout near the houses at abbey view is rubbish it doesn’t flow properly. Holiday lets should be subjected to a higher rate of council tax and there should be a limit as to how many holiday lets you can own. There should be a path along the carrs from briggswath to ruswarp, it’s dangerous and people are always walking along that road.

Its heritage. The fact it is traditional. Its unique quality . I think its character is in risk of being paved over to allow for bling, tacky attractions and novelty.

The fact its slowly becoming more like a cheap and tacky seaside town where it's all just places to get drunk and businesses that don't really care about whitby but are just out to make money

Harbour and fishing heritage. Piers and lighthouses. Cobbled streets. Parks and museums. Green spaces and gardens. Cliff paths beautiful and popular but need some attention. Pavilion theatre

Park and ride hasn’t achieved full potential. Operating hours need extending. On street parking would work better if spaces were delineated. Scratch cards are over complicated! Tourists often don’t complete correctly and fines make for terrible reviews. Dog mess!! Never seen anywhere with a bigger dog fouling problem. Talking litter bins are big, ugly and awkward to use. Either hit you in the jaw or if you’re a child they’re too tall to reach. Can’t even fit much in opening. They’re awful.

Parking will need continual review. More park and ride could help but need to consider extending hours and maybe overnight. Get camper vans out of town and on to sites to free up parking. Delineated parking spaces on street would help ease tensions. Litter is a problem. Better bins instead of gimmicks needed. Dog fouling needs addressing, wardens? Signage?

The harbour area to stop over development

The lack of shops, the way town is run for tourists. The lack of stuff for children who live here.

History and coast. The historical buildings should be protected. Also the fact it is a proper town, with shops etc. preserve the high street.

Tourism has become overwhelming, busier than it used to be. Local people avoid going into town at weekends and school holidays. Housing is difficult. There needs to be a stop on holiday homes otherwise there will be no-one to staff the shops, bars etc.

Get the empty shops etc filled and stop second home owners leaving properties empty when young couples from Whitby cannot afford to buy locally

Very little now it's been ruined. No longer a place to live in as entirely geared to tourists.

Overcrowded, no parking, no useful shops like electronics, no variation in restaurant or takeaway. Have to go to scarborough or Middlesbrough for mist needs or buy online

No more pub, no more fish and chips, get some real high street shops in, build useable Park and rides, restrict parking to residents, get rid of those scratch cards and force tourists to use the actual car parks not penny pinch and fill the street. No more holiday accommodations. Stop campervans on sandsend and more importantly down upgang ravine/ the promenade. I'm on coastguard getting to emergencies down there is getting dangerous with the campers and car. Fix the cliff lift and stop that shuttle bus, also a hindrance in emergencies.

The Heritage and the original beauty and small town feel of Whitby. The architecture and remaining original features. The piers have been left to decay until it will now be a huge expense to repair - why ?

Too much geared to tourism and tourists to the detriment and even exclusion of residents.

Parking for residents, especially on the west side is impossibly hard mainly due to the scratch card system for holiday lets. This needs to be stopped and more emphasis given to the park and ride. Another park and ride on the east side would also be helpful. Keep the original town and harbour features maintained.

Love the fact it’s a tourist destination as it gives us lots of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops we otherwise wouldn’t have. The town has a lovely buzz about it that non tourist towns don’t. The museums, parks, buildings, boats, steam train, abbey, church street shopping and swing bridge all really important to look after really well. It makes our lovely town so special.

I dislike the moaners, especially when they don’t realise what a privilege it is to live is such a lovely place. Everybody has to realise we are all tourists sometime and it’s wonderful to live in a place that attracts so many. I dislike the votes that the town council keep doing. We’ve elected them and they keep wasting money asking our opinion. It’s very annoying. I dislike the amount of dog muck on the pavements in the areas around the edge of Whitby.

It would be nice to see all the empty shop units full of thriving businesses. The banks keep leaving empty buildings as they close. And a bit tongue in cheek here- Rehouse people who do not appreciate the wonderful area elsewhere.

New housing that seems to sprout up anywhere, too many toursists, nowhere for residents to park, selfish parking, no banks, not many shops, no dentists.

Ban on new housing theres enough now, and its ruining our once lovely little town. Emphasis always on tourists, for the future young people need to afford to live here - if not you will have no workforce to run the cafes, bars, restaurants, shops. Once the older generation retire the young ones will leave if cant afford to rent or buy. All the emphasis is on second home owners and holiday cottages. Look after your residents and workforce or there wont be one.

Leave Whitby as unspoilt as it is. Stop highstreet chains buying up places. Think residents should have permits and allowed to park for free.

Rude and disrespectful tourists, a lack of parking and camper vans parking everywhere for free or very little, emptying waste on the roadside. This has been a problem for some years now and nothing is being done about it. Poor local politicians to think for this situation.

The amount of visitors need better facilities for parking and campsites. This can be achieved for example by making parking bays on Sandsend road and making it no overnight parking.Having a remote control gate on the slipway to stop parking on the prom. Have a height gate on Abbey car park to stop camper vans parking on the grass. More enforcement of existing parking

Whitby is clean and generally well looked after. Parks and common spaces are well kept. The public toilets are well kept and netter than most other places. Good bus services and they are cheap.

It’s the worst place we know for dog poo. It’s hard to walk without looking down all the time. Too many housing estates. The new housing is not attractive or in keeping with the area. Houses are too expensive and cannot have been built for local people who would not be able to afford them.

Saving the harbour is critical to Whitby‘s survival. The new building planned for the harbour looks huge and awful and doesn’t seems to fit well in the surroundings and I’m not really convinced of its purpose and benefits. Stop building pointless expensive housing estates. Building expensive houses does not solve the alleged housing shortage which is better solved by making unoccupied housing available. Make a greater effort to stop people feeding herring gulls. I was attacked and it was shocking. Somehow stop people leaving dog poo everywhere.

I like Whitby’s green and open spaces, its history and architecture and all the pubs, bars and restaurants. I think we to protect as much as possible whitbys natural areas like the harbour, beaches

I dislike the amount of cars and traffic in the areas especially at peak times. I think the park and ride should be invested in to remove traffic and cars of tourist away from the town centre. The housing crisis is also threatening to make all young people and families who want to live in Whitby impossible due to increasing competition and prices from people who turn these places into holiday homes. The beach cleanliness also needs to improve and the structure of the harbour wall

Increase large parking areas at the park and ride and make tourist use this rather than using parking spots in Whitby. This will help create jobs for bus drivers and construction industry. Widen footpaths around town to prevent tourist from stepping infront of cars. Make rules that houses that are being built can not be used ever as second homes, homes can’t be changed into holiday homes or let’s and any building that’s currently a holiday home if changed back into a home can not be then changed back into a holiday home

I like the history and heriitage of Whitby. These need to be protected against unnecessary intrusions around the town.

I dislike the apparent desire to cram as many visitirs as possible and, to achieve this end, to make propertiesavailable for rent to as many visitors as possible. This prejudices the interesfs of full- time residents.

The historic centre of the town should remain available for full time residents as well as visitors.

Overcrowded in summer! with no obvious solution. Poor public transport. Poor/zero maintenance of roadside drainage arrangements leading to flooding. No Banks in the town which is difficult for both residents and visitors. Parking provision in the town centre is a nightmare. Park and Ride is far too small at holiday times and should be open all year round. No provision for cyclists. Too many new homes being purchased for holiday letting.
Too many new homes crammed into housing develooments. Poor layouts and lack of privacy for residents. More allotment provision would be beneficial. Not enough being done for wildlife eg. the Raithwaite development.

More streets should be pedestrianised if possible, eg, the lower part of Flowergate.
