| 3/4/2024 13:15:54 | Like the traditional style of housing, pan tile roof. Views. | Lack of public transport options. Lack of affordable housing. Lack of sustainable transport options. Walking is not as easy as it should be ... lack of crossings. Cycling is not provided for at all, with little infra, little storage, and no bike shops as a result. Very poor provision of green space. Green space closer to tourist areas is abused by council for parking | More walking and cycle routes connecting green space. Ideally provision of walking / cycling options away from roads. Increased green space. Provision of only (if possible) social housing until the population is sustainable. Provision of skills training locally. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/6/2024 10:20:29 | Position, Coastline,Acess to Moors, great walking area, Active U3A group for older people, | Too many day visitors, lack of parking, too many second homes, lack of green spaces | More Park & Ride, More bluebadge Parking, Better bus services, affordable homes for local people. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/10/2024 17:59:09 | The people, the character of the buildings and being slightly removed from the mainstream. | Poor rail connection, too much motor traffic in the town itself and lack of Active Travel infrastructure that would make the town quieter, safer and friendlier | Get the decision makers to listen to local bodies and not ride roughshod over them. Increase park and ride facilities, stop vehicles using the old bridge and offer electric taxis connecting buses and trains and park and ride cheaply | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/18/2024 20:11:50 | Low family homes like 3 bedrooms | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Rent
| 3/21/2024 12:16:00 | Whitby is being hollowed out by the tourism industry. Measures need to be applied that protect the interests of Whitby people- in housing in particularly. | Whitby has an element of community cohesion- though far from perfect. I would support any measures that help to build community, such as enhancing the town centre that has been degraded with increased out-of-town and online shopping; prioritising independent essential shops (green grocers, DIY rather than another micro-pub or nail bar!); investing in community venues, such as the Coliseum; investing in resources to support our young people. Whitby is beautiful, but lacks access to good quality green space. This should be a priority for the Neighbourhood Plan. Similarly walking and cycling infrastructure in the town is woeful. Knowing that we should be moving towards more Active Transport and reducing our dependence on cars (for health and environmental reasons), significant emphasis should be put on: 1. improving the walking and cycling infrastructure- prioritising walking and cycling over cars in the town- for example permanently closing the swing bridge to most vehicular traffic. 2. improving public transport links to permit its routine use- both locally, and further afield. 3. severely restricting town centre car parking (and enhancing the P&R facility) effectively so that visitors are dissuaded from bringing their cars into town (with obvious exceptions e.g. people with disabilities). This would improve the amenity value of Whitby, facilitating active transport, reduce air pollution; and reduce RTCs. 4. Apply a blanket 20mph throughout the town- for all the same reasons as 3. above. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/21/2024 13:58:00 | scenery, heritage and people | no banks, too many closed shops, too few doctors & dentists, not enough infrastructure for numbers of new houses being built | better bus service especially to outlying villages, eg. no public transport to Sleights after 7pm. | 65-74 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:06:51 | Keep the character, preserving the historic buildings and treasure the gems we have. Provide good public transport from villages to Whitby. | Lack of parking. Bus service a joke apart from coastliner and buses break down frequently. Park & Ride too small for holiday period. Lack of publicity for local events. Not enough beds for care of elderly in hospital. Clinics are no longer local (York, Scarb, Middlesbrough, Northallerton). Hospital not managed with receptionist on each floor. Cliff lift broken | Free parking for locals. Electric charging points needed but dont put them where pedestrians need access (e.g west cliff car park next to registry office). Harbourside / marina car park could be made greener and more pleasant walking area, plus more toilets there. If adding gardens make them natural and not tacky metal sculptures (e.g cliff st). | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:08:05 | The character of Whitby. Green areas. | Lack of parking. Disruption, drugs etc. | Better shops. Houses for local people that are actually affordable | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:11:58 | Small place. Still has small individual shops. Lovely old buildings (being desecrated). Character. | Becoming like Blackpool. Hen/stag parties. All alcohol and fish&chips. No decent clothes shops for locals since M&Co left. Parking needs sorting. Main roads in full of traffic. | Traffic. Stakesby Rd accident waiting to happen. Parking both sides of road but still have buses / coaches / lorries - should have double yellow on one side. P&R is needed on East Side. Stop parking both sides of side streets. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:17:35 | Beaches and historic aspects. Preserve green space and leisure services. Extensions and piers need repairs immediately otherwise Whitby will disappear. Historical places, church St need to stay in keeping with old town. | No choice for secondary education. No social housing so our young adults cant stay in the town and bring up their families. Drug problem needs addressing. No affordable homes since Whitby wages below national average. Very little assisted living provided for young people with learning difficulties. | Choice of education - new build school should be provided invluding SEND provision. New social housing estate built on Whitby School site which would house young families. Better public transport. | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:19:52 | Local services and green areas. Local groups which help our younger generation and elderly generation too. | Too many holiday homes and there should be more affordable homes for younger generation. Pier / extensions in urgent need of repair. | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:27:15 | Historic buildings. Green spaces. | Tourists parking in residential streets. Dislike reduction of town centre parking (Maritime Hub). Dislike increase in developers purchasing residential properties for holiday homes. Stag / hen party culture. | More P&R to prevent tourists parking on residential streets. Better transport. WTC should listen to its residents. NYC should listen to residents. More housing for local people so they can stay in the town. Better work opportunities. | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own

| 3/25/2024 14:34:01 | U3A groups, active citizens, coastline and countryside. Whitby Pavilion | New homes built with no increase in doctors / dentists / infra. Harbour - proposed maritime hub should not go ahead on planned site. Secondary education provision - no real planning. WTC dont consult and not proactive. No homes for young people. No joined up services and too fragmented. No bus service for some villages. | Need town hall for Whitby centre. Service providers need to network / joined up planning / integrated services. Better usage of hospital and communicate with residents of services available. New secondary school. Cheaper taxi fares where no bus service. Better tourist parking outside the town. Adult education courses. More green spaces. | 55-64 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:41:06 | Beautiful. Used to be a stronger community, still there but reduced. | Tourists who disrespect the town. More needs doing on benefits of tourism, issues and types of tourism to encourage. Congestion, parking, lack of shops, dirt, mess and use of town as a toilet. Town is swamped. | 1. Consider the impact of tourism. 2. Charge day trippers for entering the town, to pay for upkeep 3. Parking - rethink residents parking so it covers all of the town. Stop visitors using scratch cardsin resident / disc zones. 4. Stop building on green space (note tuckers field), protect the environment. 5. Stop holiday lets / second homes - too many 6. New Quay Rd pavement dangerous - same for many pavements. 7. Campervans need to be stopped from overnight parking on roads. 8. Cost/benefit of tourism 9. Public transport nonexistent and swamped by tourists. 10. Healthcare impossible to access without car. 11. Education provision v poor. 12. Lack of gritting in winter 13. Disabled parking used by tourists resulting in residents not being able to access spaces. 14. Pavement clutter. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own

Lack of diversification of buildings and services. Tourist isn't everything. Geographically challenged under funded, terrible health and leisure provision | Health is fixed by being proactive - more funding for leisure, meaning less pressure on hospitals, better opportunities for kids and adults alike. Poor non-car links - cycle paths must be improved. | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 3/25/2024 14:46:35 | Heritage and green spaces | Having ill-conceived "improvements" pushed on the town by NYC. Poor public transport. | Greater devolved power & funding to WTC. Provide secure 24hr / 365 day P&R on both east and west sides | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own

| 3/31/2024 9:16:45 | The sense of community among the few permanent residents who are left, we keep an eye out for each other | The increasing number of holiday lets in what were residential areas causing noise and parking nuisances and at times making the permanent residents feel under siege. Young people born in Whitby have very little chance of affording their own homes here as property going on sale is too expensive and usually bought as 2 nd home/ holiday let. Bring in a requirement to apply for a “ change of use” to commercial/ business for any property not permanently lived in by the owner that is used for holiday letting and make them have to reach the same safety and hygiene standards that apply to B&B and Hotels | Improve transport links for locals, it is galling to see buses running every 15 minutes for tourists when the buses we need to get to work are infrequent and often delayed or cancelled without notice | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own

Improve ASB (litter/drunks). Improve public transport. Introduce restrictions on camper van parking - intoduce wardens. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 14:03:39 | Too many big housing estates, with properties being bought by large firms and investors for holiday/second homes. Not enough doctors, dentists. Public transport geared to visitors, not residents, with no likage between different public transport suppliers. | Most important issue is climate change. 33 | 4/1/2024 14:48:53 | Safe to walk anywhere, crimes usually minor. | Too many poorly paid jobs. Issues with drug dealing & using. Lack of NHS dentists. Bank closures an issue. Too many holiday homes. Poor public transport - buses unreliable, breakdown, lack of drivers etc, very difficult for elderly people if left without a bus back home from Scrborough. Too much dog mess particularly West Cliff | Need to make better use of brownfield sites and empty commercial premises for local affordable housing. Need to stop encroaching on limited green spaces. Better services/infrastructure required to encourage better housing & jobs. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Rent

NHS dentists in Whitby needed. Action to retain independent shops needed | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 16:46:13 | Tight knit local community, tries to fight for local issues. | Tourism in all it's different guises is overtaking and ruining the unique heritage, buildings and local businesses. No parking for locals. Second homes/holiday lets not contributing to local infrastructure/taxes, but still utilising all the facilities. Shortage of doctors & dentists. Every blade of grass in Whitby being built on, but not for the benefit of local people. | More use of Park & Ride required to improve parking for residents. More controls on housing, green spaces and taxes to improve facilities for local people. Improved health services required in Whitby. | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own

| 4/1/2024 17:06:05 | History. Friendly residents who make it a pleasant and attractive small town. | Litter issues. Empty shops - proposed Maritime Hub a waste of money when empty buildings could be used. Lack of public transport, particularly to hospitals. Neglect by local council of local needs. Limitation of Whitby hospital and local secondary schools. Far too many holiday homes, needed for local housing. Too much traffic causing increased pollution in the town centre and camper vans a niusance along the ravine/sea wall.. Lack of decent toilet facilities. Lack of footpaths. Maintenance and repair required to cliff lift, piers etc.Lack of access to green spaces | Need to promote history more. Extend P&R facilities to remove congestion/pollution in the town, provide speacial campervan parks and allow enhancement of walks along the harbour/marina. Protect development to allow green spaces/homes for local/diversity in shops/facilities. Review infrastructure requirements and maintain historic buildings. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 17:15:00 | History & Heritage important. P&R good. | Overcrowded for the size of the town. Lack of facilities including parking for residents, and public toilets limited. Harbour always looks polluted. Hospital & empty properties under-utilised. Police station has very limited openng times. | History & Heritage should always be prominent in decision making for the area. P&R needs to be much larger to allow residents parking in town and to better utilise town centre shops. Better utilisation of facilities including hospital, police station and empty premises. Reduced pollution of the harbour required. | 65-74 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 17:27:56 | Historical areas - Eastside, Church Street, The Yards, the Abbey, & St Mary's Church, Town Hall, river & harbour and piers. The Urgent Treatment Centre Whitby Hospital. Whitby Library. The beach. | Expensive public toilets - in many places they are free, and poor condition of toilets at New Quay Road - flooded at times. Lack of public transport, no service to Stainsacre. Not enough car parking. Too many second/holiday homes, which should be used by local people. House unaffordable for young people, with no social housing available to locals as a priority. Green spaces around the Pavilion to Whitbe House unkempt and barren allowing errosion of cliffs, whereas South Cliff Scarborough has a garden. | Affordable and well maintained public toilets. Improved public transport to allow better residents parking when living in the town. Controlled housing with affordable housing for young people. Improved greening of cliffs to increase biodiversity/prevent land slippage, improve health etc. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 17:33:21 | Historic interest, including old style of housing (brick & pantile), not glass. The Harbour | Lack of parking. Lack of really affordable homes. Lack of public transport around housing estates. Gutter cleaning not carried out enough. | The harbour needs protecting, with flood prevention improved. Housing, infrastructure and maintenance improvements needed, particularly to provide affordable homes and accessibility via public tranport. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 17:37:40 | History. Quaintness of housing. Harbour & river. Remoteness from big towns. | Not enough accessible toilets. Litter and dog muck. Lack of parking. Under-utilisation of Whitby hospital. A great deal of wasted space. | More accessible toilets, improved cleanliness around the town. Improve parking facilities for residents & visitors. Better utilise Whitby hospital. Review how spaces utilised. | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 17:43:29 | Too many tourists & fish & chip shops. Buildings look tatty and unkempt - eg Baxtergate. Not enough rental properties for locals or affordable homes for young people. Public trasport poor. Lack of doctors & dentists | Better planning controls to ensure diversity and provide local housing. Public transport needs upgrading & improving. Better health care needed. Improved building maintenance needed. | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 17:46:57 | The piers | Holiday homes. Lack of protection for coastline. Lack of safe places for children to play. | Control holiday accomodation, to allow green spaces for children to play. Reinstate groins on beaches too protect the coastline. | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 18:03:05 | The harbour & historic buildings. The walk along the sea wall | Under - utilisation of Whitby hospital. Allowing parking on sea wall. Parking issues in town. Empty shops & banks etc in Whitby. Too many homes on new estates sold as holiday homes. | Need to prevent cars & campervans parking on the sea wall, H&S risk, prevents enjoyment. Better utilisation of empty buildings for diversity such as Maritime museum, centrally located imformation centre eg Baxtergate. Better health services in Whitby located at the hospital. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 18:47:02 | Historic ambience and old buildings. Working harbour with fishermen | That previous SBC Council ignored Whitby and failed to manage and maintain, resulting in to much tourist accomodation & AirBNB's changing the towns dunamics. | Better management of town to put residents first, including housing for locals. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/1/2024 23:48:15 | Harbour, river, history, Whitby Museum & children's playground, Library, Leisure Centre and the beach. | Second homes, chaotic streets, inadequate car parks & traffic wardens. Lack of shops, predominatly charity shops, bingo hall. Dog fouling. Peple feeding gulls leading to attacks on public. Expensive dirty toilets. Under-utilised "new" hospital. No cinema. Too many tourists causing unsafe pavements for pedestrians, particularly crossing the bridge. Very few green spaces. | Improved and controlled housing, green spaces and infrastructure for residents. | 55-64 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/2/2024 16:23:19 | Lovely Coastline good community spirit plenty of different events Good History Need to be aware of Coastal erosion and protect what we can | Too many empty shops Soon to be no banks Poor Transport links Whitby is starting to look a bit shabby Access to Dentists a problem | Need a banking hub and better more frequent buses cheaper business rates to entice businesses into empty buildings Perhaps a tourist tax with funds to go directly to Whitby to support community enterprises | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/2/2024 19:45:52 | Pannet Park and West Cliff are excellent open spaces for everyone to enjoy. All public green space should be retained. Whitby is a town with a small footprint whch is very crowded during the summer and on holiday weekends so all public areas are necessary for the health and wellbeing of townsfolk and visitors. | Traffic access along Pier Road puts pedestrians (particularly children) at risk. It would be reasonable to allow delivery vehicles access daily from 07:00 to 10:00. No public vehicle access. Public toilets should be free. Why not introduce tourist tax / surcharge of £1 per night per adult to be added onto bill of everyone staying in B&B and Hotels in Whitby area to help pay for upkeep, proceeds to be submitted monthly by each business via BACS into dedicated Council account. ( Tourist tax is common in some European countries, why not here?) | Why not have an additional secure pedestrian only bridge across the river ( in Spital Beck area at end of Church street leading across river to/from coach park. It would need to be high enough above river to be navigable at hightide by vessels requiring passage. Suspect that would not be very high so access could be via ramps at each end, this would enable wheel chair access and allow central area to be elevated for vessels (canoes, shallow draught vessels?) to pass underneath. | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/6/2024 10:32:10 | The history of Whitby, green spaces | Too many tourists trying to park in town and taking up space on residential areas then locals have no where to park | Out of town 24 hr secure parking, extended hours to park and ride and B&Bs/hotels including this parking in fee. Scratchcards should be stopped, cars are parked up for days not being moved taking up valuable space for locals. | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Rent
| 4/6/2024 10:55:01 | The town centre. Pannet Park. The Cinder track. Pavilion and Coleseum. | Pubs sprawling onto streets. Safety on the Cinder Track is a real concern. | We need police on the streets to make everyone especially young people feel safer. We need better communication about cultural events in the town. Individual websites aren't very good. | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/6/2024 11:00:57 | I like Whitby in winter, when you can appreciate its history without being mown down by tourists or dragged along with them. Residents need to be protected. | Tourists and their cars. The problem is that they want to park as close to the town as they can and sod the residents who need to park their own cars outside their own houses. Let’s build a big wall around Whitby and charge non residents to enter. Instead of building the maritime centre just make the whole marina parking area into a two storey car park, charge for parking. All residential areas should be made parking for residents only and strictly enforced by employing more traffic officers. | Make it independent, the voices of two councillors representing Whitby on NYC are lost in the wilderness. Whitby Urban and Rural Councils worked extremely well, instead of our money being in any area except Whitby it would used just for the urban and rural areas of Whitby. We wouldn’t be paying for County Hall or their services. | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own

| 4/7/2024 19:37:08 | The area's history, architecture & lack of high-rise buildings. | Building houses on green-belt farmland, which we need to produce our food. Paying 40p (to go up to 50p?) to use a toilet. The bus station toilet encourages you to put 20p in the slot, yet the door is permanently locked, without a notice of explanation. Everywhere else you can at least be sure of facilities in bus and railway stations, but not in Whitby. This is a basic human necessity and lack of free facilities encourages waste, smell and poor hygeine. In Scotland virtually every village and town has free facilities - why can't we? Public transport - Arriva are not fit for purpose and should be held to account for the number of missing buses and for timetables at bus stops (and even in the bus station) which have not been updated for years. What we have in winter cannot be called a bus SERVICE , and in the school holidays when the place is packed, the hourly bus between Whitby and Scarborugh does not even stop to allow you to board, yet Arriva do not schedule additional (essential) buses. I dislike the use of alcahol on public transport as it is the cause of bad, rowdy behaviour. | Build houses only on brownfield sites. Zero tolerance on drunken behaviour and littering. Charge full fare for dogs on buses. | 65-74 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/8/2024 21:21:59 | I like Whitby's historic architecture and harbour and how the town appeals to tourists and locals alike. I like community facilities such as the leisure centre and library and believe these should be supported to ensure their future.. | I dislike the architecture of the new housing developments and do not feel that they add to the special nature of Whitby and its historic buildings. | More careful consideration on the design of housing estates so they are more unique to the history of Whitby and suit the setting. Help further the development of businesses around and connected to the harbour and it's trade. Encourage tourism to boost the local economy. Ensure community facilities remain open. | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 15:55:30 | Its size; its history; independent shops; beautiful harbour and seascape | Too many second homes, not enough affordable housing for local residents, very poor quality restaurants, no late evening public transport, lack of real consultation on developments particularly on infrastructure | Urgent need to upgrade harbour bridge, probably by replacing it with one in a new position. | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 15:56:13 | Too many tourists and too many new houses | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 15:57:27 | Historic quality | Should be enough accommodation for locals, especially younger people; more local employment | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 15:58:49 | History; family ties | too many tourists, disrepair of the town, filth, rich incomers | more concern for residents | 75+ | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 16:00:05 | history; family ties | tourists - too many; filth; disrepair of the town | more concern for residents | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 16:01:29 | history; family ties; our town's heritage should be protected; leave market alone | too many tourists, state of streets, filth, rich incomers buying up property, housing costs i.e council tax | more concern for residents | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 16:02:46 | heritage buildings, views | holiday lets, too much tourism | over reliance over tourism, and more jobs and affordable homes for local people | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 21:21:43 | The architecture and historical nature of the town, plus green spaces, independent businesses and the general overall character of the town. | The amount of holiday homes and greedy developers building ugly homes without considering the look and feel of the town. The lack of doctors/dentists/banks and infrastructure to support the growing number of new homes is a major concern. Parking is a big problem. Not very much to keep young people from leaving to seek cheaper housing and better paid jobs. | Park and ride on the east side. Restriction on holiday homes. More affordable housing, but not if they are going to be ugly like the new builds being built atm. More help for young people to start their own businesses in the town. | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 21:35:51 | No more houses should be built. Protect all green spaces. | 2nd home owners should pay council tax . | Why does anything need changing, leave Whitby as it is although a new swimming pool would be great. | 45-54 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 21:36:40 | The history and scenery are both interesting and beautiful. I like the quantity of local family businesses, but big chains are creeping in. | Traffic, parking, too many holiday cottages and locals are forced to move to cheaper areas and travel to work. | More should be done to deter visitors parking in the town centre. Traffic is ridiculous. Park and ride should be free. | 35-44 | Work in Whitby | Own
| 4/10/2024 21:40:01 | Any green space needs keeping stop these building firms from taking over | People buying second homes to use as holiday lets needs stopping | Folk week and goth week to many people needs sorting | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 21:44:52 | The history of Whitby. The Abbey. Old cobbles streets | Lack of parking for locals . Especially living on Church Street. I think church street car park should be all for permit holders. Only for residents and business owners. Just like the tin gaught car park. Also the turning circle is a complete waste of space - that could be put back to private car parking space for residents. | I think whitby needs a space for local artisans, market traders and local producers. Like a little French style food market, artisan wines, cheeses, food stalls , crafts , fruit and veg . Whitby has to many chip shops. I think it lowers the tone and attracts less money to the town. Whitby needs to attract more than just dog walkers only buying fish and chips. We need actual spenders . | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 22:10:55 | Football fields and the green space left. So the children will have a place to play football and other sports. | All the new houses being built in the cheapest way possible. | Affordable housing and 2 hours of free parking for local people, in the town. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 22:28:55 | The character and the locally owned businesses. | Road infrastructure is terrible. Parking is a big problem for locals in busy periods. House and rental prices not realistic for the wages of locals | Parking definitely needs improvement. Hospital and health services need to be kept in place. Whitby seems to be losing access to essential services | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Rent
| 4/10/2024 22:35:52 | The size it is and the community | The speed cars travel particularly on the Hawsker to abbey road. Cars parking on the same road and on green lane | Speed limit on back lane from Hawsker to Whitby 30mph and no parking on green lane. Permit parking for green lane, Ropery and the railway | 45-54 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 22:42:35 | Location, heritage, general buzz | Moaners and the entitled people | Litter reduction. Mainly locals cause the problem. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/10/2024 23:04:12 | Green Spaces | New homes becoming holiday lets and not for locals | Public transport increased, better advertising for park and ride, locals could use park and ride for a minimum fee | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 0:03:55 | I feel safe, I think the quietness on a evening should be protected | Parking, it is really hard when you live on the outskirts of whitby and you need to pop into town for a quick appointment. I think all the town center streets and cliff top should be just for whitby residents and the holiday makers should have to park at the park and ride. We need 2 more park and rides, one located on the industrial estate, and a bigger one on the current site. | Whitby needs more control over its NHS, we have the most wonderful team at the MIU but they are limited with resorted and no dr. Currently if you need same day bloods then it's a drive to Scarborough hospital for a 7 hour wait (I had to have this yesterday), living in whitby, we pay a massive premium in our council tax. I pay more for my small 3bed social house then my friend with a large mortgaged 3 bedroom house in Essex. Even my social rent is twice what others pay in the country. Yet we don't get the services we are paying for. | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Rent
| 4/11/2024 6:26:49 | I love the harbour and pier road area but it needs to be cleaned up and made to look better same wit Baxtergate | I dislike the lack of proper shopping and dining other than fish & chips, pubs and charity shops. | Allow more retail to come to Whitby it won't hurt the charm to have updated business and even chain restaurants. Stop worrying about how it would look in town it's 2024 and parts of Whitby haven't changed hardly at all in decades. | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 6:29:23 | Our beach The harbour/piers The Promenade Market Square Green spaces | Lack of parking. Failure to control camper vans. Cost of housing for our young people. | Out of town parking to include longer stay Provision of an 'aire' with appropriate facilities for motorhomes. Provision of lower cost housing to encourage our young people. (both rental and to buy) Better care of our harbour/piers | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 6:53:24 | I love our small town and it should be protected from over development and chain franchises . Whitby has always been quirky and unique and that needs protecting or we will end up just another town with a McDonald’s and all the other (rubbish) chains | Dislike how every other house Is a holiday let, dislike how the holiday lets are snapped up by out of towners pushing the house prices sky high so they are unaffordable for anyone starting out on the property ladder. Dislike how all our green spaces are being built on with shoddy houses for out of towners. Dislike how Whitby is becoming a town for tourists and not for locals anymore, we are loosing our sense of community. | That new roundabout near the houses at abbey view is rubbish it doesn’t flow properly. Holiday lets should be subjected to a higher rate of council tax and there should be a limit as to how many holiday lets you can own. There should be a path along the carrs from briggswath to ruswarp, it’s dangerous and people are always walking along that road. | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 7:00:18 | Its heritage. The fact it is traditional. Its unique quality . I think its character is in risk of being paved over to allow for bling, tacky attractions and novelty. | The fact its slowly becoming more like a cheap and tacky seaside town where it's all just places to get drunk and businesses that don't really care about whitby but are just out to make money | We need to put a stop on new drinking establishments being opened. I no longer feel safe | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 7:22:04 | Green space, small independent shops | Illegal parking especially down in promenade and litter. | Sort out parking on prom. Any housing built from now in should be affordable housing and not available for holiday let's or second homes with thought put into roads, extra shops, doctors etc. Well built with solar panels and energy saving . | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 8:11:35 | Harbour and fishing heritage. Piers and lighthouses. Cobbled streets. Parks and museums. Green spaces and gardens. Cliff paths beautiful and popular but need some attention. Pavilion theatre | Park and ride hasn’t achieved full potential. Operating hours need extending. On street parking would work better if spaces were delineated. Scratch cards are over complicated! Tourists often don’t complete correctly and fines make for terrible reviews. Dog mess!! Never seen anywhere with a bigger dog fouling problem. Talking litter bins are big, ugly and awkward to use. Either hit you in the jaw or if you’re a child they’re too tall to reach. Can’t even fit much in opening. They’re awful. | Parking will need continual review. More park and ride could help but need to consider extending hours and maybe overnight. Get camper vans out of town and on to sites to free up parking. Delineated parking spaces on street would help ease tensions. Litter is a problem. Better bins instead of gimmicks needed. Dog fouling needs addressing, wardens? Signage? | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 8:22:12 | The harbour area to stop over development | The lack of shops, the way town is run for tourists. The lack of stuff for children who live here. | Allocation of house, and parking. | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Rent
| 4/11/2024 9:23:13 | History and coast. The historical buildings should be protected. Also the fact it is a proper town, with shops etc. preserve the high street. | Tourism has become overwhelming, busier than it used to be. Local people avoid going into town at weekends and school holidays. Housing is difficult. There needs to be a stop on holiday homes otherwise there will be no-one to staff the shops, bars etc. | No more holiday homes. Affordable housing. Residents only parking. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 9:34:11 | The Harbour | Parking | Get the empty shops etc filled and stop second home owners leaving properties empty when young couples from Whitby cannot afford to buy locally | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 9:40:54 | Harbour and abbey | Empty shops and general cleansing | More shops and hospital for amount of people in whitby | 25-34 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 9:41:35 | Very little now it's been ruined. No longer a place to live in as entirely geared to tourists. | Overcrowded, no parking, no useful shops like electronics, no variation in restaurant or takeaway. Have to go to scarborough or Middlesbrough for mist needs or buy online | No more pub, no more fish and chips, get some real high street shops in, build useable Park and rides, restrict parking to residents, get rid of those scratch cards and force tourists to use the actual car parks not penny pinch and fill the street. No more holiday accommodations. Stop campervans on sandsend and more importantly down upgang ravine/ the promenade. I'm on coastguard getting to emergencies down there is getting dangerous with the campers and car. Fix the cliff lift and stop that shuttle bus, also a hindrance in emergencies. | 35-44 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 13:24:51 | Fresh air and historic feel | lack of doctors dentists and hospital services, plus new modern housing estates with extra people that will require even more doctors dentists and hospital services | cliff lift to be repaired. underground parking on the west cliff. cheaper parking. should keep at least one bank open. put the whitby tourist information back in what has recently been Star Inn - you could combine it with a tea/coffee shop | 55-64 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 16:29:13 | The Heritage and the original beauty and small town feel of Whitby. The architecture and remaining original features. The piers have been left to decay until it will now be a huge expense to repair - why ? | Too much geared to tourism and tourists to the detriment and even exclusion of residents. | Parking for residents, especially on the west side is impossibly hard mainly due to the scratch card system for holiday lets. This needs to be stopped and more emphasis given to the park and ride. Another park and ride on the east side would also be helpful. Keep the original town and harbour features maintained. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 19:35:31 | Love the fact it’s a tourist destination as it gives us lots of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops we otherwise wouldn’t have. The town has a lovely buzz about it that non tourist towns don’t. The museums, parks, buildings, boats, steam train, abbey, church street shopping and swing bridge all really important to look after really well. It makes our lovely town so special. | I dislike the moaners, especially when they don’t realise what a privilege it is to live is such a lovely place. Everybody has to realise we are all tourists sometime and it’s wonderful to live in a place that attracts so many. I dislike the votes that the town council keep doing. We’ve elected them and they keep wasting money asking our opinion. It’s very annoying. I dislike the amount of dog muck on the pavements in the areas around the edge of Whitby. | It would be nice to see all the empty shop units full of thriving businesses. The banks keep leaving empty buildings as they close. And a bit tongue in cheek here- Rehouse people who do not appreciate the wonderful area elsewhere. | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 19:46:43 | Its heritage and old parts of the town, also the harbour | New housing that seems to sprout up anywhere, too many toursists, nowhere for residents to park, selfish parking, no banks, not many shops, no dentists. | Ban on new housing theres enough now, and its ruining our once lovely little town. Emphasis always on tourists, for the future young people need to afford to live here - if not you will have no workforce to run the cafes, bars, restaurants, shops. Once the older generation retire the young ones will leave if cant afford to rent or buy. All the emphasis is on second home owners and holiday cottages. Look after your residents and workforce or there wont be one. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 20:06:21 | Heritage, old buildings | Rubbish, dropped everywhere. Lack of recycling bins next to rubbish bins | Transport, need more buses need reliable buses. Need a banking hub | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/11/2024 20:32:43 | The people of the town, the heretige of names and families | The pandering to the few people who make money from tourism. | Focus on the actual people who live and work in the town. Tourists will come anyway . avoid becoming an even bigger tourist trap | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Rent
| 4/13/2024 8:35:42 | All green areas and spaces, lack of pollution and its heritage | All the new builds and second home owned properties. Traffic. | Leave Whitby as unspoilt as it is. Stop highstreet chains buying up places. Think residents should have permits and allowed to park for free. | 55-64 | Visitor | Rent
| 4/15/2024 17:13:47 | The community which is very tolerant. The community by supporting affordable housing for all the people who have to move out | Rude and disrespectful tourists, a lack of parking and camper vans parking everywhere for free or very little, emptying waste on the roadside. This has been a problem for some years now and nothing is being done about it. Poor local politicians to think for this situation. | The amount of visitors need better facilities for parking and campsites. This can be achieved for example by making parking bays on Sandsend road and making it no overnight parking.Having a remote control gate on the slipway to stop parking on the prom. Have a height gate on Abbey car park to stop camper vans parking on the grass. More enforcement of existing parking | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/16/2024 9:41:03 | The coastline. The harbour. The heritage. | Lack of transport links. Lack of resident parking. | Investment and engagement in the younger generation using social media and school visits. Promotion of local food through a regular farmers market. | 45-54 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/16/2024 14:41:46 | Whitby is clean and generally well looked after. Parks and common spaces are well kept. The public toilets are well kept and netter than most other places. Good bus services and they are cheap. | It’s the worst place we know for dog poo. It’s hard to walk without looking down all the time. Too many housing estates. The new housing is not attractive or in keeping with the area. Houses are too expensive and cannot have been built for local people who would not be able to afford them. | Saving the harbour is critical to Whitby‘s survival. The new building planned for the harbour looks huge and awful and doesn’t seems to fit well in the surroundings and I’m not really convinced of its purpose and benefits. Stop building pointless expensive housing estates. Building expensive houses does not solve the alleged housing shortage which is better solved by making unoccupied housing available. Make a greater effort to stop people feeding herring gulls. I was attacked and it was shocking. Somehow stop people leaving dog poo everywhere. | 55-64 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/18/2024 0:00:14 | just general, the sea, the clean air | too many uncontrolled vehicles, pedestrians walking anywhere they like, | better traffic control, a second P&R on the east side and a bigger or second one on the west, removal of some of the on-street parking on main roads such as Downdinner Hill, better street cleaning/bin emptying, | 65-74 | Whitby Resident | Own
| 4/19/2024 20:36:22 | It’s character and size | Amount of traffic and lack of 20 mph limit | Improved park and ride on East side | 55-64 | Work in Whitby | Own
| 4/23/2024 14:52:36 | I like Whitby’s green and open spaces, its history and architecture and all the pubs, bars and restaurants. I think we to protect as much as possible whitbys natural areas like the harbour, beaches | I dislike the amount of cars and traffic in the areas especially at peak times. I think the park and ride should be invested in to remove traffic and cars of tourist away from the town centre. The housing crisis is also threatening to make all young people and families who want to live in Whitby impossible due to increasing competition and prices from people who turn these places into holiday homes. The beach cleanliness also needs to improve and the structure of the harbour wall | Increase large parking areas at the park and ride and make tourist use this rather than using parking spots in Whitby. This will help create jobs for bus drivers and construction industry. Widen footpaths around town to prevent tourist from stepping infront of cars. Make rules that houses that are being built can not be used ever as second homes, homes can’t be changed into holiday homes or let’s and any building that’s currently a holiday home if changed back into a home can not be then changed back into a holiday home | 18-24 | Whitby Resident | Rent
| 4/24/2024 14:37:07 | I like the history and heriitage of Whitby. These need to be protected against unnecessary intrusions around the town. | I dislike the apparent desire to cram as many visitirs as possible and, to achieve this end, to make propertiesavailable for rent to as many visitors as possible. This prejudices the interesfs of full- time residents. | The historic centre of the town should remain available for full time residents as well as visitors. | 65-74 | Whitby District Resident | Own
| 4/24/2024 15:49:55 | Beautiful scenery and friendly people. interesting historic heritage. | Overcrowded in summer! with no obvious solution. Poor public transport. Poor/zero maintenance of roadside drainage arrangements leading to flooding. No Banks in the town which is difficult for both residents and visitors. Parking provision in the town centre is a nightmare. Park and Ride is far too small at holiday times and should be open all year round. No provision for cyclists. Too many new homes being purchased for holiday letting. Too many new homes crammed into housing develooments. Poor layouts and lack of privacy for residents. More allotment provision would be beneficial. Not enough being done for wildlife eg. the Raithwaite development. | More streets should be pedestrianised if possible, eg, the lower part of Flowergate. | 75+ | Whitby District Resident | Own |
