Vision
Independent Elementary School fosters the development of all students, encouraging them to grow into their unique and inspirational selves. Students transition to middle schools as emotionally literate, intellectually curious, academically capable, and socially conscious problem-solvers who have an appreciation and curiosity for difference and the skills necessary to achieve their goals.

Providing teachers professional development in highly effective ELA instructional strategies such as reciprocal teaching (Lori Ozckus), Socratic Questioning (AVID), and Guided Reading. Providing teachers professional development in reteaching and differentiation strategies for mathematics. Providing teachers professional developement to support their learning of the Next Generation Science Standards. Creating consistent, frequent, and standards aligned (National Core Arts Standards) arts instruction, both explicit and integrated, in grades K-5. Introducing, providing professional development, and implementing AVID strategies in grades 4-5.70% of students meet or exceed standards on CAASPP Science (CAST).

Mission
In partnership with the community, Independent Elementary School educates students in a safe, supportive, positive, and welcoming learning environment where they are immersed in a well-rounded and rigorous curriculum with an emphasis on the whole child and their social/emotional learning.

Culture
Providing data, resources, and professional development that promote consistency in the implementation of PBIS

Maintaining and enhancing a positive and welcoming community environment through the implementation of and action upon the Family Friendly Climate Survey (2x per year)

Monitoring and address patterns in school activities for equity of historically marginalized populations

Increasing diverse cultural representation on the general campus and within curriculum.

Empowering the Sunshine Committee to expand their work to include regular staff socializing events and positive climate activities, supporting the full staff in increasing positivitity and problem-solving.
Our SAS score is 90% IP/P or greater on SW and C status reports, 85% IP/P or greater on NCS s.r., and 70% IP/P or greater on IS s.r.
