Points to Ponder
25
1. How do you define "Going the Distance" -- is it the physical distance or is it mental/emotional as well? Going the distance means being committed to whatever goal you set, to see it through to the end whether you make it or not. I think it requires more mental fortitude than physical by far. It's a mix of both for me. I have to be mentally ready to come home and get on the treadmill. Also, I doubled my goal for this month (from Oct) since I knew I'd be walking a lot on vacation, however... for the months after this I want to keep at LEAST what I have now for the physical side of it, since I KNOW I can do it!I signed up to help keep me accountable for my half marathon training. It was all about getting the physical mileage done. Its definitely got some elements of emotional/mental "Going the Distance" I know that my regular routine doesn't normally include cycling, but I'm making the extra effort because of GTD. And due to that I'm having to mentally push myself to go those extra miles. I think it's a little bit of both. Last month I adjusted my goal higher and higher I realized how much I could do. I think losing weight or getting fit is never just a physical journey, it's an emotional one too! I was just going to talk about this on my blog today! Ratio of Physical-to-Mental distance is 30:70 for me, i reckon. Why do our minds rebel?!I think it's a combination of both! For me, I'm starting to get there mentally, but have NOT been pushing myself physcially. It's both for me!

2. Are you overachieving on your goals because you're underestimating your ability? Are you underachieving because you doubt your ability? I'm underachieving right now because I needed a break. I ran 220 miles in Sept/Oct and just burned out. It's okay, I'm finding my purpose again.I actually thought I was overestimating this month since I doubled my mileage, but now that I know I can do it I need to keep it up.I think I set an achievable yet realistic goal originally. My goal was to keep to my training schedule, which is what works for me now. Unfortunately, life got in the way a bit and I'm trying to make up for it now. Darn wisdom tooth removal mid-month got me off track!I think I'm right on target of where I expect myself to be. I'm concerned of being a little bit shy of my goal. Its achievable, but will take will power. I think underestimated my goal because I was afraid of how my injury would take so much abuse. (Achilles Tendinitis cause by previous knee injury) Plus with the holiday this month, I wanted to make sure my goal was obtainable. I think I do underestimate myself consistently, so while I set my goal of a 100, my real goal is to see how far past 100 I can get. Underachieving during week one as i ate unhealthy options for a few evenings and when i fall off-plan i seem to also stop exercising....back with a vengeance this week though.i am just very proud to make a goal for myself, if I don't make it this time around it's something to get up and try again next month. Its the effort that matters. This month has been so busy with work that I've forgotten to focus on exercise, as not only a stress reliever but a distraction and a gift to myself!I don't know the answer. August was my most mileage at 100 but I was training for a triathalon and biking and running and swimming so I think aiming for 80 now when I'm just joining NovGTD and I've only done about 45 miles so far this month means I have to push myself. Also, I'm mostly running, there won't be much biking.Yikes!

3. Do you share your goals or are you afraid to in case you don't achieve them?I share them. I'm so motivated by everyone else's goals as well as people cheering me on toward mine. I don't specially blog my goals, but hey they are on this spreadsheet for anyone to see :)I agree with Robby's answer.I blog about my goals, but have yet to blog about NovGTD. hmmm.I've been sharing them, because since I'm such a perfectionist, I will work as hard as I possibly can to accomplish what I set out to do so that's motivation in itself. To a certain extent i am afraid of letting myself down in front of people i hold myself accountable to.I did to help build a support system,I sometimes don't share them because I'm afraid I won't succeed. But what that really does is take away any accountability...and shows that I'm not really believing in myself!
