DOCTORS WITH POSITIVE REVIEWS FOR FQ SYNDROME (INFORMALLY CALLED "FQ TOXICITY")

(Because sometimes a supportive doctor can be helpful even though there is no known treatment and no known cure -- read the disclaimer below.)

Disclaimer: The doctors on this list received positive reviews as being supportive or helpful in the course of dealing with a chronic medical condition, with the patient presuming a probable link to FQs. By viewing this document, you agree to accept that there are no magic potions, no magic wands, and no magic cures for most chronic medical conditions. You agree that there is no such thing as an "FQ Aware" Doctor nor a certification nor training in Fluoroquinolone Adverse Effects. You agree that for any given pill, there is no magic pill or potion that can undo what the first pill did; real life is not a Lewis Carroll children's story from the 1800's. If such "magic undo" pills did exist, every drunk at a bar would take one before driving home, cigarette packs would come with "uncancer" chewing gum, and marijuana shops would stock "whoa, man, unstone me -- the fuzz is outside" brownies. You agree that there is no proven treatment for this condition -- neither supportive nor leading to long term improvement. Most sufferers do eventually find a subset of all treatments that they try to be helpful in their individual case. You agree that fluoroquinolone adverse drug reactions are a diagnosis of exclusion. You agree that there is no definitive test for this condition that could determine that you have it or don't have it. You agree that it is possible to have more than one medical condition at a given time. For example, being "floxed" does not prevent you from catching a cold, stubbing your toe, developing diabetes, or having already had an undetected condition that you were not aware of at the time you took the FQ. You agree that you understand doctors on this list may have received a positive review from a patient/client who saw them, but that does *not* predict the type of experience you will have with your individual case. You agree that you will not repost or redistribute the contents of this document or claim them as your own or deceptively label them in any way. This document is not intended to be construed as medical advice.

1-800-USC-CARERheumatologyhttp://www.doctorsofusc.com/doctor/bio/view/72076He recognizes what Cipro can do to the tendons. He has an attitude that he is reluctant to prescribe immune suppressants because he feels immunosuppressant medications are life threatening. If you are floxie with a PTSD fear of medications, this attitude will appeal to you and you will love him. On the other hand, if you tolerate medications and want to treat seronegative autoimmune conditions, this attitude is incredibly toxic. He apparently doesn't have friends on disability because being broke and living on the street from being unable to function is far more life threatening far faster than suppressing your autoimmune conditions and getting 3 good, productive, active decades out of life before cancer takes you.

(323) 938-2068PodiatristDr. Asin (Podiatrist), is very direct, but is interested in the patient. For me, he was the only Dr. to acknowledge what happened: “Achilles tendonitis subsequent to antibiotics”. He has been in practice for many, many years. The two women who work with him are extremely nice and helpful. When things started worsening again with my Achilles and feet, his staff got me in very soon for another appointment. I had so many symptoms/issues; he spent time and listened to my concerns and ran a couple of non-invasive tests to rule out things. He referred me to P.T. to see if it would be helpful and believes that orthotics can help. He was interested in reading a copy of an article/case study I brought with me that was from one of the FQ pages about Physical Therapist treatment of Achilles Tendon issues. He has a small office in an old 17 story office building; nothing fancy, but that did not matter to me.

Dr. Kane is very into research and spends a lot of time with his patients (sometimes more than you might have time for!).

(858) 794-9192Rheumatology and Internal Medicine with Integrative Medicine approachhttp://ifsmed.com/about-us/dr-alex-shikhmanI haven't asked how many floxies he has seen. On my 1st visit, I mentioned Levaquin and he is very familiar w/ the side effects and does not deny it is causing my pain. He was able to diagnose me w/ an autoimmune disease (my blood was off the charts) and explained that people w/ my condition should STAY AWAY from fluoroquinolones. (Wish I had known before.) He believes in gluten-free diets, sells his own supplements and vitamins (but doesn't force you to buy them), and seems very competent. He said there is no cure for the toxicity, but he is taking the time to talk to me and is patiently working w/ me. This office also offers a dietician and physical therapy. I haven't tried those yet. Visit http://www.ifsmed.com/ for all the details. After 3 visits, I'm still comfortable seeing him.

Initially he had trouble believing that my symptoms, then 2 months out, were from Cipro, thinking that the drug "should be out of my system by now". But he had an open mind, listened and read the wikipedia printout about FQs that I brought; he believed me and tried his best to help. He suspected some auto-immune issues and I took blood tests to determine. He showed me some pressure-points near the affected tendons of my right thumb joint and left ankle joint.

ConnecticutDarienDr. Susan Collins(203) 655-8749Internal MedicineDr. Collins suspected that the Levaquin I was taking (given by a Dr at an immediate care facility for a simple UTI) was behind my sudden anxiety, vertigo and GI issues. She listened, researched and worked with me offering me ends for the symptoms as needed. She saw mw monthly until things were bearable. Just knowing she was in my corner with sound advice and encouragement that with time, I would get better made all of the difference.
74
ConnecticutNorwalkDr. Thomas Vris(203) 866-6671Ear Nose and ThroatI saw Dr. Vris for vertigo- he immediately suspected the Levaquin I'd taken for a simple UTI was the culprit. He was well versed on the adverse affects of quinine drugs and expected I would be sick for at least 8 weeks (in actuality it was 9). Still, he ordered a brain and brain stem MRI just to be sure there was no coincidental or underlying issue. As much as I hated the process, I admired his proactive stand and as it turned out, the MRI was clear. That offered a lot of comfort as the weeks of quinoline toxicity went on. I feel extremely lucky to have found a Dr so knowledgeable on this class of drugs.

203-799-7733She had no knowledge of FQ toxicity when we arrived but was very familiar with drug toxificaiton, in Fact she read the Flox report we gave her. She truly wants to get people better. She was pretty thorough in her testing but doesn't feel that "tests" are the end-all, be-all...and that your body is more reliable to indicate something is wrong than a mere test. Offers IV's for chronic fatige, magnesium, GSH, H202 etc. After 8 mos of treatment we feel we might actually be able to beat this thing.. feeling much better.
