182 | Good Good Culture Club | Asian | Hodo Yuba | Mission | Trendy | Table Service | $$$ | Saturday night, and you're feeling alive! | GGCC is one of SF's newest and most dazzling darlings, a two-story Mission spot from the Liholiho Yacht Club folks hawking some super inventive flavor blasted food in a high energy tropical paradise of a space. The format is small plates that are meant to be shared with the table, which allows you to explore a wide variety of ingredients, textures, and presentations. One standout is the 'good good chicken wing,' a singular wing that's deboned and stuffed with something tasty (it changes regularly), then deep fried. The 'hodo yuba' is another one I crave -- a chilled salad of tofu skin noodles coated with sesame miso dressing. Plan ahead and make a rez, because Bon Appetit tipped off the masses when they named it one of the best new restaurants of 2022. | 4 | X | Yes | https://goodgoodcultureclub.com/ | 3560 18th St, San Francisco, CA 94110
183 | Handroll Project | Japanese | Smoked Uni & Ikura Handroll | Mission | Hip | Table Service | $$$ | One on one dinner with someone who will appreciate the play by play | Handroll Project is the latest from the ju-ni and Hina Yakitori crew, a casual-feeling, utterly bumping spot for temaki like you wouldn't believe. Pull up a stool at the counter which snakes around the perimeter of the restaurant and let your chef do their thing. The set menus are the way to go -- less thinking, more eating -- but there's an a la carte menu in case you're picky (or still hungry). Each handroll is unique and special, but my favorite was the smoked uni and ikura, a sweet and salty creamy dream! Don't sleep on the pickled wasabi either, which is made in house and is unlike any condiment I've ever tasted before. We asked if we could buy a jar...they said no. | 5 | X | https://www.handrollproject.com/ | 598 Guerrero St, San Francisco, CA 94110

218 | Mijoté | French | Fixed menu, so...all of it! | Mission | Hip | Table Service | $$$ | Date night | I first experienced Chef Kosuke's inventive yet classical cooking years ago at an intimate winemaker dinner at Ordinaire that I somehow managed to score an invite to. The memory was a little fuzzy and very warm, but when I stepped into his new Mission restaurant Mijoté recently, I was transported right back to that delicious, intimate evening. After that meal, I immediately made plans to come back the next week. Mijoté inhabits a warmly lit corner space that feels inviting and energetic. The menu, which is an $82 prix fixe format, changes weekly according to what's tasting good, but you can expect a relatively consistent format of crudo + cooked seafood + meat + dessert. Each course manages to comfort and challenge you, striking a balance in presentation that's both rustic and cheffy. 219 | Mission Chinese Food | Chinese | Thrice Cooked Bacon & Rice Cakes | Mission | Hip | Table Service | $$ | Feeling adventurous | What was once a no-name Chinese spot has since become a fad that's made it all the way to New York. Chefs Danny Bowien and Anthony Myint have taken over the menu with gut busters like the Kung Pao Pastrami and Thrice Cooked Bacon. This is not a place for weaker palates - spice lovers only. Side note: MSG is a welcome addition here - you'll find salt shakers of the stuff on every table. | 5 | X | Yes | https://missionchinesefood.com/ | 2234 Mission St, San Francisco, CA

231 | Penny Roma | Italian | Cacio e Pepe | Mission | Trendy | Table Service | $$$ | Fun night out, but still in bed by 10PM | Go to Flour + Water once every few years, and go to Penny Roma all the friggin' time. This new little sister restaurant is affixed to the Flour + Water Pasta Shop, where you can take fresh noodles and sauces home or enjoy an aperitif at the counter. The dimly lit restaurant is vibey, with high ceilings, warm lights, hanging vines, and water features. The menu follows a new theme in town, crudo + pasta (see: Itria) and takes a more classical approach than F+W with mainstays like cacio e pepe (so much cacio!) and agnolotti with sugo. This is a perfect spot for a lowkey but special dinner, where you know you'll be getting the best of the best, without (too much of) the hype. | 4 | X | X | https://pennyroma.com/ | 3000 20th St, San Francisco, CA 94110

260 | Souvla | Greek | Baklava-Topped Greek Yogurt Soft Serve | Mission | Trendy | Fast Casual | $$ | Weekend lunch, weeknight dinner | Almost too trendy for its own good, Souvla seems to be taking over San Francisco with its rotisserie chicken gyros and baklava-topped Greek yogurt. This is a solid spot for a quick, casual, healthy-ish bite. My order: sweet potato salad and Greek fries. | 2 | X | X | No | https://www.souvlasf.com/ | 758 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94110

Better balance things out with the thrice-cooked fries, Manimal style. | 3 | X | No | http://www.trickdogbar.com/ | 3010 20th St, San Francisco, CA 94110
273 | True Laurel | New American | Patty Melt & Martini | Mission | Trendy | Table Service | $$$ | A spendy date night | It's the distinct combo of patty melt + fouffy cocktails + funky minimalist decor that makes True Laurel hard to put in a box. That patty melt is made with hand ground beef on bread fried in beef tallow. It's small but mighty and by mighty I mean rich af. The cocktails are involved and surprising – also small but pack a big punch. This isn't a place to go on a budget - both food and drink are on the pricier side especially considering the seconds/thirds that will be in order thanks to portion and curiosity. But if you can muster it, you're in for a sensory adventure unlike anywhere else in town. | 5 | X | X | https://www.truelaurelsf.com/ | 753 Alabama St, San Francisco, CA 94110

285 | Mission Rock Resort | Seafood | Oysters | Mission Bay | Crowded | Counter Service | $$ | Work happy hour | Right on the water and a little ways away from the hustle and bustle, Mission Rock Resort is a hidden treasure. You're coming here for oysters (they've got so many options) and fried seafood plus beer and margaritas. As Mission Bay is strangely many degrees warmer than the rest of San Francisco, you may actually believe you've washed on a salty resort. You won't be mad about it! | 3 | X | X | X | X | https://www.missionrockresort.com/ | 817 Terry A Francois Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94158

300 | Trestle | New American | Pasta Add-On | North Beach | Hip | Table Service | $$$ | Dinner with friends, date night | The daily changing $35 per person menu is both generous and careful. Each dish in your three-course meal (four if you opt in for the pasta course, which you obviously will) is plated with enough intention to tell you they really care, but not too much futz that it feels overdone. Trestle's goal is to make you feel at home, and that shows by and large through their excellent service. Reservations are a little tricky to come by, so plan ahead! | 3 | X | Yes | http://trestlesf.com/ | 531 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94111
303 | Bini's Kitchen | Nepalese | Pan-Fried Lamb Momos | SoMa | Hip | Fast Casual | $$ | Lunch meeting, dinner after work | No, those aren't soup dumplings you're seeing be folded together from the window, they're momos! These Nepalese dumplings are filled with lamb, turkey or veg, then steamed or steamed AND pan-fried (definitely the move) and are served with a piquant tomato cilantro sauce. Bini is the powerhouse chef behind this momo empire, which recently opened its doors on 6th and Howard following regular attendance at every outdoor eating event in town. 306 | Iza Ramen | Japanese | Tsukemen Ramen | SoMa | Casual | Table Service | $$ | Date night, weekday lunch, dinner with 1-3 friends | Iza is surprisingly authentic, despite its trendy edison bulb aesthetic. You won't see too much tsukemen ramen outside of Japan, so definitely order it here. Rich, thick condensed broth is served alongside fat, wavy, chewy noodles. Dip, slurp, repeat. Check out their Lower Haight location! | 4 | X | X | No | https://izaramen.com/ | 1155 Folsom St, San Francisco, CA 94103

No, it's just Marlowe, a beautiful white-on-white restaurant with attentive service, fancy but #worthit food, and yummy wine. The eponymous Marlowe Burger is truly a standout. 323 | Rooh | Indian | Tandoori Artichoke | South Park | Fancy | Table Service | $$$ | Co-workers in town | ROOH labels itself as "progressive Indian cuisine" and they're not wrong. This SoMa spot is as cozy and inviting as it is elegant and illuminating -- the velvet chairs, muraled walls, and warm light create a dreamy ambiance in which to enjoy chefy spins on Indian ingredients and classic dishes. Standouts were the refreshing and satisfying chutneys served with poppadoms and the tandoori artichoke was a showstopper, but I'll be going back to explore the rest of the menu which promises to be as aromatic, creative, and beautiful as what we've tried so far. | 4 | X | Yes | https://www.roohrestaurants.com/ | 333 Brannan St #150, San Francisco, CA 94107
