| Week | One | Story # | One | Text | Shark Attack (Junior Journal 43) | Level | Y3, Curric L2 | Notes/ Critques
| Achievement Objective | Ideas: Makes and supports inferences from texts with some independence. | While reading it became evident that we needed to focus more on unfamilar words and vocab related to the text. I was still able to ask the questions however we did need a lot of dicussion and help to get to the inferring. Next week will need to focus on voacb.
| Learning Objective | WALT: Make inferences about what I am reading by using clues from the text
| Teaching Materials | A copy of Junior Journal level 43 for each studnet
| Introduction | What do we already know about shark attacks? We are going to be reading a story about a boy who has been attacked by a shark how do you think he is feeling? He is also a boy who is always walking around the classroom. Link to not sitting in the right place and doing the right thing. What might happen?
| Teacher Instructions | Page 2: * He'll never forget the day that the shark bit Harry" - Infer that Harry is the boy in the story who has been bitten by a shark. * How is Miss Sharp feeling? Using clues from the text we already know that Miss Sharp is not in a good mood and also "Miss Sharp eyeballed Harry" infer that eyeballed could be considered to be galaring or staring at Harry. Page 3: * How is Miss Sharp feeling? Infering that she is grumpy or getting annoyed "Leave the bag and come and sit down, right now" * How is Melissa feeling? "Glared" as a clue to see how she could be feeling in the story. Pages 4-5: * Why were the students suprised that Harry was sharing news? Infer that maybe he never shares news. Look at his behaviour and how he is always walking around the class this shows that he is possibly never intereted in news let alone sharing it with the rest of the class. * Where the studnets excited that the other boy was sharing his news? Infer that they might be bored by his sharing his news due to the reaction of the class and how it is described that he only talks about fishing. | Page 6: * How do we know that the class is excited" - Infer from the description from the text: "Jump up and down." "We had lots of questions" "All started talking at once" Page 7: * Did Harry really get bitten by a shark? Infering that he didn't actually get bitten by a shark from the ocean but technically he did get bitten by a shark becuase of the jaw bone of the shark that he fell on in class. The sharks teeth bit him so we can still stay that he did get bitten by a shark. * "For a whole week, Harry didn't have to sit down because he couln't." Disucss as a group why this is important to the story. Think back to the beginning where Miss Sharp was getting upset at Harry not sitting down. Link it back to why ihe can't sit down now and why this is.

| Introduction | Read the title and look at the illustrations on pages 26 and 27. Ask the students to share their experiences of going to a sports game of any kind. Who do you go with? 16 | Teacher Instructions | Page 26: * Are the people in the story still at home? - Infer using the images from page 26 and "i'm ready" showing that he is ready to leave the house. The text is describing that they are going to the game and Brady was also checking his ticket. Page 27: * Why is Brady angry at Sarah? Inferrring that he wont make the rugby team every, implying that he is not good enough at rugby to make the national team. * If Brady wasn't angry would he have spotted the wallet? No beacuse he was looking down becuase he was grumpy, if he was happy he would have been looking up. Using the clues "That is how he spotted the wallet." Pages 28: * What is scooping it up? Talk about the action of scooping it up, what do you think he is going to do with it? * Why did Dad say they needed to hand it in right now? So the people who lost thier wallet can make it to the game, otherwise they will miss out. * What might happen if Dad and the kids try and find the person who owns the wallet? They might miss the game themselves. | Page 29: * Why was Brady worried? - "He could hear the cheers in the stadium." He thought that they might miss the game having to sort out the wallet that they found. The game was pretty much starting and he was worried that they would miss the whole gam.e. * How was Brady feeling? Infer that he was feeling sad, grumpy and nervous we can find this out from the way he is described in the text. Page 30: * How was the man who came running feeling?
