Art CravenART K/1 We begin today with a story read to the students titled "The Little Lump of Clay." There will be a "demonstration station" which will teach students how to turn a blob of clay into their very own little cup with a handle which they may glaze and actually drink out of if desired . Glazes are Amaco Brand / Dinnerware safe. The project takes 2 weeks to make, 2 weeks to dry, 1 week to fire, 1 week to glaze, and finally 1 last week to re-fire. ART 2/3 The 2/3 clay project has 3 components. Students will watch a "demonstration station" to learn how to mold a blob of clay into a simple bowl form which will eventually also have the Art Elements of Texture, Color, Pattern, and if time allows.. a tiny Rainforest Animal. This unit is special as students have the option to utilize "Marble Melt" within our glaze firing in hopes of creating a "watery-jungle" type effect. We would WELCOME any glass marble donations. Thank YouART 4/5 "Leapin' Lizards!!" This group of students will create a whimsical clay lizard sculpture which will be painted with acrylic. This week is the "demonstration station" and planning phase. Focus is on the Art Elements of Color, Pattern, and Form. We began listing different types of "lizards." Coming up, students will receive their clay, and begin shaping the main part of the body. The construction phase will take about 2-3 weeks.ART 6/7 "SGRAFFITO!" After watching a video clip on the technique called "Sgraffito," students will decide which form their individual projects will take. The initial phases of IDEAtion will encourage thought processes related to height, form, color, and function of the clay pot or vase. Twelve different underglazes will be available to become the basis for color. Sgraffito involves scratching away a top layer of glaze with carving tools to reveal the clay color beneath. Essentially, it is a "subtractive" method of working. Three sketches will be created, and one selected for the actual project. ART 8/9 "SGRAFFITO!"
