Overview

This document lists the formula used for damage by most attacks, as well as the multipliers of individual skills and other factors that affect damage. At some point, I MAY create a damage calculator from this sheet - if there's enough demand for it.

What's New to V2?

Datamining has given us many more concrete values directly from the game. This has lead to many things being updated including:

1) An updated damage formula, using the in game values rather than calculated approximations

2) Updated level scaling modifier. Unfortunately this is still from tested values rather than datamined, but with the updated damage formula these values were multiplied by 1.25 to fit the new formula.

3) Added and updated columns for each ability in the Skills tab from in game values, including adding some previously unknown information such as extra details on how multi-hit moves work, and hit/crit rate bonuses some skills have.

About the numbers in this guide

Values in this spreadsheet were initially found through a trial and error method, however at this point abilities have been datamined and are thus 100% accurate. From these we have a very good idea of the damage formula, so while there may be some minor discrepancies sometimes it should be accurate in almost all cases.

Level Scaling Multipliers

The level scaling multiplier is a value that all attack damage/healing is multiplied by which depends on your level. As you level up, your level scaling multiplier slowly increases with you. Unfortunately the exact values of this have not been datamined yet (to the best of my knowledge) so these are all approximations, based on testing, calculating and interpolating. Values in bold have been specifically tested and should be more accurate than those not in bold.

How skill damage works in brief

Skills in general have three main properties that affect their damage output: Invocation Ratio, Ability Ratio and boost modifier

Ability Ratio is a direct damage multiplier, with a base value of 100. A ratio of e.g. 200 would be double that base damage.

Invocation Ratio is ALSO a direct damage multiplier, same as above. However it additionally acts as a divisor on the enemies defence, again from a base of 100. For example a ratio of 150 would divide their defence by 150/100, i.e. divide it by 1.5. Therefore the higher the Invocation Ratio, the more enemy defence will be negated.

The boost modifier is how much extra damage the attack gains from boosting. Contrary to what some people assume, this isn't consistent across all skills.

Damage/Healing Formula: Lists the damage/healing formula and the factors it includes.

Skills (by Job): A list of all skills, listed in the order found in game. Includes both in game details and all the numeric information noted above, plus extra details on how they work where relevant.

Skills (sortable): The same list as above, but in an easier to sort format. You will need to make a copy of this document to do this - go to File > make a copy. By default, they are sorted by move type.

Assist Skills: A list of assist skills, with extra details on how they work where relevant.

Level Scaling: A table showing the level scaling multipliers. As mentioned above, not all values here are known, some are guesses.

Buffs/debuffs/status effects: A list of common status effects (mostly ones that the player can apply), buffs and debuffs, and how they affect damage.

Thanks to several people who provided details and other resources before this one. Many were used to give direction to this guide and/or information from them was used to speed up testing. In particular: /u/Mazjak's Team Builder sheet was used to grab some data from at several points. A GFaqs user who I cannot remember posted details about how they believed multi hit moves worked, which I tested further and found seemed accurate. There may be many others who I cannot remember
