|Feature||1:08:32||Discussion on Physical vs. Digital distribution|
|1:25:10||What are your thoughts on digital games versus disc games?||Dave Zombocalypse McCallister||I know I'm old fashioned but I always prefer physical media to digital copies. My collection is so much fun to browse through and display and there just isn't the same satisfaction as opening a case and actually loading something up. I'm the same way with books though too; my kindle is great for ease of use but nothing beats a wall of books to browse and turn their pages.|
|1:25:38||Danny Mecler||If I never have to own another physical game, then I'd be the happiest little Mecler on this side of the 'sissippi. I sold all my movies, games and CDs a long time ago and never plan on buying any others in the future.|
I don't understand why people spend thousands of dollars to build a collection of things they only use once. "Here, look at my massive bunker of things that I dust more than I use. Pick a game, you can borrow it right after you go fuck yourself!" It doesn't make much sense to me. I like being able to delete my steam library after I'm done, throw away the condom, and light a cigarette.
|1:26:23||Ashley Peterson||For the sake of ease, I tend to prefer digital downloads, but at the same token there really is something awesome about having to use a disc. With physical copies you then have a decoration or even conversation piece if someone sees the case. With today's instant gratification necessity, digital downloads are definitely not going anywhere though.|
|1:26:42||Satana Adrienne||I like having the physical game for a couple reasons. I don't tend to replay games so I like that I can trade them in and get some credit towards another game. Also I would fill up the hd with all the random games I get.|
|1:27:28||Ricky Keller||I like being able to share games even though I've done less of that recently. That's not so easy with digital games. You can sort of fake it with ps4 live sharing but that isn't practical on a regular basis. I also like being able to display my collection on my wall (much like Charlie's super impressive wall o' beer). There is something to be said for the low maintenance of digital games provided you really like spending your time watching things download. Yay for sass!|
Last thing, Users weren't able to keep their virtual store items from their Wii to WiiU. Repurchasing all of those same virtual items is a big problem to me. Same goes for ps1 games. My collection of ps1 games is larger than the ps1 games currently available on the playstation store. In short, I don't like the idea that I can lose something I've paid for.
Funnily, I definitely prefer Steam digital games for PC.
|1:29:19||Ryan Ahn||Dear, Goddard, TeaKettleCorn, and Imposter Flynn,|
Before I give my mailbag answer, I must 1st go on a brief tirade. As you knew, last week I was at C2E2. I was at a booth that sold art supplies and if you drew something using their pens they gave you some freebies. I elected to draw GHR. Goat was/had gout. And the lame-ass father of Captain Falcon - Falcon Glen - was clearly recognizable. Then my good friend, Jontiago, gets to TugForButterCorn and I realize I don't know who this man is!
His moniker was "TugForButterCorn." Tug! TUG! Good gawd, the man is doing a standing jack and Jontiago says it's Steamboat Willie?! I know my drawing is cacapoopee but Charlie even asked, "why is my hand vibrating?" and "... you can't really see the front of my waist and my wrist is going up and down, right around... that area."
I don't know who this Villain is. Maybe having a kid has turned him into old lady with homespun sensibilities that refuses to see the world the way it really is.
My other theory is, he couldn't keep his eyes open any longer, fell asleep, and an alien pod hatched a perfect clone from the husked body. If the latter was the case, I demand this alien imposter tell me where said body is. He was my friend and deserves a proper burial. You have Fallen from grace, Mr. Flynn. This week, I shall know you as Fallen Flynn.
Now, MAILBAG ANSWER: Physical games have a monetary value, so trade-in-value becomes a factor. However, if digital were always and consistently a much cheaper alternative, I don't think consumers would care as much. Also, FULL GAMES for me, all the way. Episodic feels like such a tease, but I suppose for those with only short stints of time to game, it serves a purpose.
Keep up the tugging work,
|1:34:35||Songbird||Dear Technetronicorn, Goat, and Fallon Flynn,|
Mailbag answer - For as long as I am able to I will always prefer pychical copies over digital games. I understand there're people who go digital out of nessesity like space and money, but I like being able to "own" my games compared to feeling like I just downloaded a code to a system. Not to mention that's how you get extra goodies from collector editions.
If certain digital games are so popular when why can't they eventually put them on disc?
With how digital seems to be growing with the help of the internet, why don't stores like Best Buy, Gamestop, and etc have places where you can download these codes on your hard drive?
Somewhat similar to my first question, what really pains me is knowing eventually all my game cartridges will die due to the battery on the inside; why can't we have such things without batteries? Or better yet, why not re-lanuch such games like Super Mario World on a disc?
