The CIRMF is located on an area of 49 hectares, and brings together nearly 2000 m 2 of premises (divided between research laboratories and offices); a biological analysis laboratory; a high-security laboratory allowing the handling of the most dangerous infectious agents such as the Ebola virus; a primatology center considered today as one of the largest in the world; and three enclosures with an area of about six hectares in which live nearly two hundred monkeys in semi-freedom. In Franceville : The central and annex buildings house the laboratories, administrative offices, the library and maintenance services Two P3-type biosafety laboratories (molecular and cellular biology) The only type P4 high security laboratory in French-speaking Africa. For security reasons, this complex is isolated on the fringes of central buildings (offices, high-security laboratory, maintenance room, video security, 24-hour security). It is made up of offices and a high security P4 type laboratory. A Primatology Center (CDP), one of the largest in Africa, with type A2 and A3 animal facilities for animals included in scientific protocols. Vast open-air play areas shelter the great apes (chimpanzees and gorillas) in the phase of deportation to sanctuaries, no manipulation being authorized under the international regulations (Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act of 2011) which prohibits any invasive research on great apes. Species of Gabonese origin (cercopithecus, mangabeys, mandrills), and imported species (macaques, vervets) are housed in aviaries. Four tree-lined enclosures of 5 to 8 hectares are home respectively to Sun-tailed monkeys (the only semi-free colony in the world) and the largest semi-free mandrill colony in the world (200 specimens). A medical center receives all the primates from the enclosures and cages for sanitary control. The Center also has a radiology room (medical imaging) and a surgery room. - A maintenance structure for the Center (biomedical equipment, garage, supply, cold chain, deep cold freezer rooms and production of liquid nitrogen, IT) - A residential area made up of 20 villas, 8 duplexes and 16 studios allowing researchers, doctoral students and trainees to reside on the CIRMF campus. In Libreville An office, responsible for coordinating the reception of visitors or staff of the Center on mission, and the reception of imported materials as well as their transport to the head office in Franceville. A sickle cell diagnostic laboratory is hosted on the campus of the University of Health Sciences. Inside the country : A field study station has been set up in Dienga. This is a health observatory, dispensary type which is located in Dienga, a village located 3 hours by road west of Franceville, on the border of the Republic of Congo, to carry out field studies on the prevalence of viral and parasitic diseases and their implications for public health.
