HOW THE CAPITOL CODEX WORKS: ANYONE WHO CAN SEE THE SPREADSHEET CAN EDIT IT, TOO. ALL CHANGES SHOW UP IN REAL TIME, SO YOU ARE ALWAYS LOOKING AT THE MOST UP TO DATE VERSION. GO AHEAD AND MAKE ANY CHANGES YOURSELF.

Dear Capitol Community,

WELCOME TO THE CAPITOL CODEX! The CODEX is the ONLY #CALeg spreadsheet MAINTAINED by people who actually work in the Building and USED by people who actually work in the Building!

Anyone is invited to take a look and fill in missing, incorrect, or out of date information for chiefs-of-staff, legislative directors, communications directors, schedulers, and district directors for members of the California State Legislature. The CODEX is completely open-souce, so go ahead and make any changes yourself.

The CODEX also includes issue area assignments for both houses of the Legislature! For the floor, Appropriations, or Budget, if the office breaks down assignments by its staffers' issue area assignments, please reflect that fact by inputting "By issue area."

PLEASE do not add additional columns beyond chiefs, LDs, comms directors, schedulers, and district directors to the main tabs. Please add issue area staffers to the "Issue Area" tabs for each of the two houses.

NOTE: The CODEX will continue from session-to-session, so no need to update your bookmarks! As each two-year session ends and a new one begins, this document will update to reflect any changes in membership of the Legislature.

ANOTHER NOTE: The CODEX is, by necessity, Capitol-focused. For example, for offices that have a chief in the district, and both a capital director and legislative director in the Capitol, the preference will be to list the capital director in the chief-of-staff column, and the legislative director. For offices that have a chief in the district, and a capital director but no legislative director in the Capitol, the preference will be to list the chief while listing the capital director in the "legislative director" column.

Thanks to Shanna Ezzell for suggesting adding staffers who handle floor manager requests, Jennifer Fearing for adding committee position letter requirements, Jessica Duong for the idea of adding new member photos, Jess Bartholow for the notion of adding member name pronunciations, and to GIFCaucus for getting the work started on member social accounts!

STAFF: DO NOT BCC VOTE COUNT
