Position is expected to end after two years and requires that the selected incumbent spend a significant portion of that two-year period in Ethiopia. Poultry production systems have a considerable role in the economies of low income countries. Several programs in Ethiopia have attempted to improve poultry production (both backyard and semi-intensive producers) as a means to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods. The increase in income, population and urbanization within Ethiopia is expected to increase the demand for livestock products. The Growth and Transformation Plan for the livestock subsector produced by the Government of Ethiopia has made enhancing livestock production and productivity (including poultry) a key strategic priority. Ethiopian poultry keepers have identified numerous constraints to production. These constraints reduced the productivity of poultry producers, limiting their income, food security and livelihood strategies. The project objective is the investigation and mitigation of production constraints identified by semi-intensive poultry producers in central Ethiopia. The selected individual will work on the three project goals: • Investigation of production constraints for semi-intensive poultry producers in Ethiopia. • Design, development and evaluation of integrated extension program using appropriate research methodologies to reduce production constraints for semiintensive poultry producers in Ethiopia. • Development of training package for extension service providers
