2 | 1 | Getting Started | 20 min | Welcome to Chemistry Bootcamp! <Embed Image 1 Bitmoji Welcome.png here> Before we dive into this mini-course, let me first introduce myself as your instructor. My name is Dr. Rachel Johnson (most of my students refer to me as Dr. J though!) and I am currently the Head of Science and Information Technology at White Oaks Secondary School in the Halton District School Board. I have my Ph.D. in Biochemistry (hence the Dr.) and I have been teaching science and math at the high school and university levels for the past 12 years. I went to the University of Toronto for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees and I started my M.Ed. degree in 2016 at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (which equates to many, many years spent studying!). Getting to Know Me Check out this video to get to know a little bit more about me: <Embed Meet Dr. Johnson Video here> You can find my contact information HERE <Embed hyperlink to Contact Instructor Page (Pg. 5 in this module)> Getting to Know You Now that you've had a chance to get to know me better, lets learn a bit about you! 3 | 2 | About This Course | 20 min | Course Description Welcome to Chemistry Bootcamp! Chemistry is the study of matter, its properties, and its changes or transformations. Learning chemistry is similar to learning a second language; it’s important to develop a strong fluency in the language of chemical nomenclature and equations in order to converse with scientists from around the world. The purpose of this mini-course is to provide you with a solid review of the fundamental skills needed to have a successful semester in chemistry. This mini-course will focus on nomenclature, balancing equations, types of reactions, significant digits, chemical calculations, stoichiometry, and safety in the chemistry laboratory. It will be conducted entirely online, using a variety of asynchronous technologies allowing you to progress in a self-paced manner. Full Course Outline <embed full course outline hyperlink here> Course Design This mini-course is comprised of six asynchronous online modules. Each module should take approximately two hours to complete. We will also be using the Canvas Open Learning Management System (LMS) as our main course website for this mini-course. You can self-enroll in the course website at https://canvas.instructure.com/enroll/ADXW7H <embed hyperlink here> Before You Begin the Course Please complete the short All About Me Survey <embed hyperlink to Google Forms Survey here> so that I can get to know you a bit better as a learner. | Course Outline - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cldgFkKir5oIuhqnAh8ow3cL0Z8Le7jzHlIKI0yRbp4/edit?usp=sharing Canvas Link - https://canvas.instructure.com/enroll/ADXW7H Google Forms Survey - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeK6YUPFWHDC8yucPf1TUV8M-kP7VgVF_C6WeD7tjp9Mk5KGQ/viewform

Learning Outcomes LO 1, LO 2, LO 3, LO 4, LO 5, LO 6 <embed hyperlink to Assignment #3 Rubric here> Assignment Submissions It is your responsibility to submit individual assignments by the posted due date(s). I will provide detailed submission instructions via the course website. All assignments must be clearly named and identified (i.e. lastname_firstname_assignment#). Late Submissions It is your responsibility to post online resources and participate in online activities as per dates published for each topic, activity, and assignment due date. You should keep in mind that failure to meet specific assignment or activity submission dates may have a negative effect on the ability of your classmates to proceed with their own course activities.
