When to count fish as fishes helped

General Notes
4
- Whether fishes are helped will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The Program Manager proposes any instance to our Fish Welfare Experts and Director of International Programs for final verification.
5
6
Fishes helped through corrective actions
7
- We will count fishes as helped if we suggested AND the farmer successfully implemented corrective actions regarding water quality, diseases, or similar.
8
- We only count fishes as helped if we feel confident that the improvement makes a significant impact on their lives (e.g., longer-lasting or intense impact -- a pH change from 8.6 to 8.5 does not count).
9
- We only count fishes as helped if we think >80% of the fish in the pond benefit from the intervention.
10
11
Fishes helped through stocking density reduction
12
- The stocking density reduction has to be 20% or more to count the remaining fishes in the pond as fish helped.
13
- Fishes helped through reduced stocking densities will be counted for three consecutive cycles because we assume that the farmer would not have implemented the stocking density reduction without our intervention for at least three cycles.
14
15
When to count fish purchases diverted
16
- If fishes are bought directly from a nursery or another farmer.
17
- Fish purchases diverted will be counted for three consecutive cycles because we assume that the farmer would not have implemented these without our intervention for at least three cycles.
