I teach plein air painting classes to high school through adult students, beginner through advanced levels. Classes include all supplies and equipment needed for a 3-4 day workshop in studio or plein air painting. Classes and workshops focused on "Wellness Through Art". (Through the use of Adlerian psychology, an understanding of our human holistic approach to life and combine it with expertise in artistic expression.) It is through my experience of teaching that I have developed a strong desire to empower participants to claim and use their energy embedded in their fear and anxiety. I believe in and act on Adler's belief that "inside of each person is a creative force that is identical with the "Life Force". Through the use of color, contrast and form, you will experience your own life story as a source of potential joy and inner peace. Our human spirit continues to be expressed when using the "tools of art" and our "creative force/spirit" combined and used fully. Then our longing for wholeness and peace are freed. (I keep my groups/classes small to commit to establishing more personal relationships with people.)

I teach painting (watercolor and oils) and drawing for people of all ages and skill levels. I also teach metal point drawing, and currently have a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to teach silverpoint drawing. I especially enjoy working with people with disabilities, and use some adaptive materials for those with visual or physical limitations.

LeClair-Sommer

I don't do a lot of teaching but do teach mostly local contacts at beginner and intermediate level in watercolor only. I do "real artist" classes at grade-schools doing a large collaborative watercolor using professional media and tools they don't usually get in school. Every student gets multiple turns adding to the painting. There is a video of this and some photos on my website. I am mostly joining for the workshop and learning opportunities for myself.

Before Covid, I taught regular winter classes in my studio. There's plenty of room for 8 to 10 students. Students worked from plein air studies (preferred) or photographs.
