Almost 1/4 of all prosecutions lead to convictions; one reason could be that the standard is high. We can also see in the data an upswing in charges being brought forward in recent years.

Police in the United States are 2.5 TIMES MORE LIKELY to be charged (and convicted) if they shot someone BLACK compared to if they shot someone WHITE.
11
BlackCharged with a crimeTHUS WE HAVE TO ASK: Why is it assumed that BLACK AMERICANS receive LESS justice than WHITE AMERICANS? The entire BLM movement rests on this myth.

BlackCharged with a crimeIt has been my long-held hypothesis and suspicion that the black community may get no better government response to their claims of injustice than any other group. I was open to the idea they may even get more "justice" on average. One can call it the "Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease" hypothesis. Now it appears self-evident Black Americans in the age of Black Lives Matter benefit from vastly more prosecutions -- and wins in court -- against police after deadly outcomes at the hands of law enforcement. Where's the "No Justice, No Peace" for Latinos? For Asians? For Non-Hispanic Whites?

BlackCharged with a crimeBasically, the activist and politically left-wing Mapping Violence does track prosecutions of police, and in their data I could clearly see in a 45 min analysis (needs more work) that deaths of black folks are 50% of charges, even though they're around 25% of people killed (and 30-35% of unarmed)

Author's Thoughts (4/1/2021) - How much more likely will a cop be charged if they shoot someone black?
36
BlackCharged with a crimeI just ran the data. This goes against basically every story I've been hearing for 6 years. And it's been the #1 question I've had in the back of my mind, "Who gets 'justice' more often?" Obviously, there's an anti-white, anti-Asian, and anti-Hispanic bias in charges. I can find no other conclusions.

WhiteCharged with a crime
The Police Integrity Research Group at Bowling Green State University, which tracks criminal charges against police officers, found that between 2005 and 2019, 104 local law enforcement officers across the country had been arrested on suspicion of murder or manslaughter following an on-duty shooting — an average of about seven per year. Of those, 35 were convicted of a crime, it stated in a 2019 report.

In New Mexico, such cases have rarely led to criminal charges — much less a conviction. State law says deadly force is justified if the officer “has probable cause to believe he or another is threatened with serious harm or deadly force” while performing his or her job, a standard that makes prosecution exceedingly difficult.
