5 | 1 | Why have you decided to use Power BI and not Tableau Software in order to produce your dashboards? | 1 | We also looked at Tableau to produce dashboards but we ultimately decided to use PowerBI because it was flexible to suit our data needs. Tableau was a bit more expensive and provided more features/capacity than we actually need. The Region is also moving to PowerBI on a corporate level reporting so we are aligned from an organizational level. |
6 | 2 | Can you provide an example of a data quality challenge and how you sanitize that data? | 2 | Previously we had some outlier trips in the APC dataset that had excessive schedule deviations or passenger boardings that skewed the reporting. Algorithms are applied to identify and separate those outlier trips. |
7 | 3 | Do you have information about how the centralised data storage system was developed? Do you have recommendation in how to push for the creation of a centralized data storage system with management? This seems to be the key missing link for us as we have different data storage options for our AVL, APC, and AFC data and they are not coherent with one another. This forms a challenge when developing reporting procedures. | 3 | More information about the development of TDRS is in the long version of the presentation. In terms of recommendations, our pitch was to position TDRS as the go to portal to view operational performance and also departmental performance. This responds to managemnt's request for a high level dashboard that can efficiently provide information on how the system is performing. To achieve this, we needed to integrate data sets into a central location (cloud server). Another benefit is that it unlocks new analytical opportunities across different datasets. |
8 | 4 | Are you able to determine transfer information? | 4 | Transfer information is calculated separately using our Electronic Fare Management System data before being uploaded to TDRS. We are currently working on automating the calculations and data upload steps into TDRS. |
