12/8/2022email and specimens The same client emailed about gnats/midges that keep bothering only him and was able to collect more specimens using sticky cards.Three specimens submitted contain one Drosophila and one biting midge. According to a new study, some people attract more mosquitoes compared to others, due to the Carboxylic acids produced by the skin glands, but why mosquitoes attract to Carboxylic acids is still unknown.go_to_folder

12/3/2022emailHello
I found the innocent little bugger freezing in the cold so I brought him in. After warming up, he is thriving well in my mini-habitat. Would you all by chance have a use for a living hornet? I was going to release him but it's going to be 30 degrees today. I can deliver to anywhere in Columbus no problem. I don't know what to do with him otherwise. I call him Patrick.
Advised to release the insect when the weather gets warmer, but wanted to keep it. Provided life cycle information and stinging nature of the Hornets. No Images

12/2/2022Troy, MIemail-Digital My name is ....and I work with ..... I was trying to reach out to either .... or ....to see if they could help with a diagnosis. We have recently seen an increase in beetle damage to cedars/arborvitae. We have been trying to figure out what beetle is attacking these arborvitaes for treatment timing/options for others that we run into. I have included a picture of the status of these arborvitaes and some pictures of the holes and galleries. I am unsure if there is anything else you'd need? Samples sent? If so live and/or dead? The damage looks like an apple tree borer, but necessary information was provided to submit a sample.go_to_folder

November11/30/2022email-Digital My name is ....and I am a Zoo Educator at ..... and a former OSU staff member at Stone Laboratory. I am reaching out to you today in regards to an insect that we have been provided photos and videos of that I am trying to identify for educational purposes. I believe it may be Blaberus giganteus, however, I was wondering if there was someone in your department familiar with this specimen, as it appears you have some in your collection. Would you be able to get me in contact with someone who I could provide photos and videos or set up a virtual meeting with? Thank you for your time.Archimandrita tesselata. The insect are 1/8” from head to the tip of the wing. The body itself is less than a 1/16th. The home is located on the banks of the Muskingum River. I am assuming it’s some type of gnat.
