Semestre 07A History of Translations4V7AHTRP4.5Cours magistral24.0This seminar proposes to explore the history of translations from the Renaissance to the present day, a period during which English slowly passed from a marginal position to a hegemonic status in the field of international exchanges. We will study the role played by translation in the evolution of the English language and in the construction of an English literary canon. The reflection will progress through the confrontation of theoretical texts and examples of texts translated (into English and from English to French) over the entire period, in order to put into perspective the current state of the language and to inform students' translation practices. A History of Translations This course offers an overview of the history of translations from the Renaissance to the twenty-first century, a period over which English has grown from a marginal position to become the hegemonic language of world exchanges. We will focus on the role played by translation in the evolution of the English language and in the construction of a literary canon.M1- Etudes anglophones
