Skye FitzpatrickYork UniversityMA/PhD in Clinical Psychologyhttps://www.tuliplab.ca
https://www.yorku.ca/gradstudies/psychology/areas-of-specialization/clinical-psychology/
Current research focuses on identifying ways to optimize, expedite, and broaden access to borderline personality disorder (BPD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatments on their own and as they co-occur using dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and couple therapy methods. In the interest of optimizing and expediting BPD and PTSD treatments, Dr. Fitzpatrick has become particularly focused on harnessing the power of relationships through the development and study of conjoint or dyadic interventions. In the interest of broading access to BPD and PTSD interventions, she has become interested in developing and studying online, remote-delivered, and brief interventions.

Kirsten GilbertWashington University in St. LouisPhD in clinical psychology
https://eedp.wustl.edu/about/people-page/
https://psych.wustl.edu/graduate-program
My program of research focuses on the phenomenology, clinical characteristics and longitudinal course of ‘overcontrol,’ a dimensional personality characteristic or personality type, from early childhood through adolescence and adulthood. I aim to understand the adaptive and maladaptive etiology of overcontrol (and the development of personality, generally speaking) in relation to neural, behavioral, and environmental interactions and onset and progression of psychopathology. Maladaptive presentations of overcontrol most commonly occur in anxiety/depression, anorexia nervosa, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. I also study the mechanistic targeting of overcontrol in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT) a across youth and adult populations.

I also have ongoing projects examining the developmental precursors, using observational, clinical and neural markers of borderline personality disorder spanning from preschool through young adulthood.

**I am recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow in 2024 to work on either line of work (Development of overcontrol OR Development of BPD) but not a PhD graduate student.**

Increasingly, my research and that of the lab has been focused on understanding how different factors related to elevations in the prevalence of borderline personality disorder diagnosis among LGBTQ+ populations. Relatedly, I am interested in exploring different sociocontextual factors that metaphorically queer the experience, assessment, and diagnosis of psychiatric disorders and psychopathology dimensions. While I am focusing on borderline personality disorder and associated factors currently, I do not consider myself a BPD researcher per se. I believe that the BPD diagnosis is a good illustration of a lot of the concepts that I think are pertinent to understanding LGBTQ+ mental health and wellbeing.

The PATTERNS lab investigates how traits (e.g. general personality dysfunction, narcissism, dependency) can impact human functioning in emotional and social domains experienced in daily life. Informed through interpersonal theory, and with use of advanced longitudinal models, the PATTERNS lab also explores how longitudinal data can enhance psychological assessment, diagnosis (particularly the DSM-5 Alternative Personality Disorder model), and personalized interventions.
