Auto_populate with a leading subfield

I'd expect this to be treated as a 2nd subfield a, but instead it got wiped out. For example: "$a New subject to test the new $a" became "$a New subject to test the new"; More concerning: $100 becomes $1 00. We do sometimes have notes that use the dollar symbol. 3	2	Remove a leading subfield	1. Edit or Derive a MARC bib record 2. Go to an existing MARC field with a leading subfield 3. Remove the leading subfield 4. Save 5. View Source Expected result: $a is populated as the leading subfield	LED: Passed TW:Passed
4	3	Change a leading subfield	1. Edit or Derive a MARC bib record 2. Go to an existing MARC field with a leading $a or Add a new MARC field 3. Change the $a to another subfield value 4. Save 5. View Source Expected result: The updated field's leading subfield is not $a	LED: Passed TW:Passed even with an invalid subfield.
5	4	Add a new MARC field but no value	1. Edit or Derive a MARC bib record 2. Go to an existing MARC field with a leading subfield or Add a new MARC field 3. Remove all values but the leading subfield OR just have a field with only a leading subfield 4. Save 5. View Source Expected result: The field without any values is removed	LED: Passed TW:Passed
