Subtitle: A surrealist showcase and play. A viscerally intimate and transformative evening of theatrical storytelling, liberation, and empowerment, centering an ethereally surrealist array of literal and metaphorical flowers, alongside queer, BIPOC, and AAPI dance rituals, experimental soundscapes, and earthenware art. Through lenses of myth and metaphor, and boldly embodied pleasure driven alchemy, multi-media floral art seductively unearths and dances with quietly driving underpinnings of a feminine, queer, and black experience. To melodies of intuitive and ancestral movement and psychic luxuriating on mental beds of artful floral arrangements, The Secret Life of Flowers spins healing narrative strings of diverse marginalized voices into deeper environmental power, pleasure, and positive change.

Featuring work by Kat Lin and Nico Maimon, the evening of performances will be followed by a discussion with the artists and Residency Mentor Deborah Slater.In her dance theater piece Kat Lin contemplates one simple question—what is the point? Through movement and visual puns, this choreography is all about the point of art—how we miss it, how we don't, and why we try to find it. Nico Maimon’s work, THIRTEEN is inspired by the 2013 film of the same name. "Blending themes and aesthetics from the film with our own coming of age, we will explore themes of dark suburbia, mother-daughter complexities, substance abuse, and class divide."

The Sauna is one of the oldest and most powerful bathing spaces in the world, deeply rooted in the ancient principles of heat, water, and stone. In this Sēfari workshop participants will come together to create a stone circle, connect with the element of fire, explore the myths of the body, and plunge into the depths of being. Our intention is anchor the embodiment and convergence of elemental transformation, resurrecting our vitality through ritualized communal immersion. What’s Included This workshop will include a stone of your choosing, an opening circle, a guided sauna + cold plunge experience, and a closing circle. ​Theme: Where is the math in art?SudoRoom and Noisebridge hackerspaces will be converging on the SF Moma during Downtown San Francisco First Thursdays to interweave math, life, art and more! ​We'll begin at the SF Moma the new Kara Walker exhibition Fortuna and the Immortality Garden (Machine) which is in part inspired by science fiction writer Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower of the philosophy "Earthseed" parable books.The piece is on view at the SF Moma, which is is free for Bay Area residents first Thursday! ​We could start by talking about how mathematical ways of thinking resemble and differ from the "Earthseed" philosophy from those books, which the narrator at one point describes like this: I’m trying to speak—to write—the truth. I’m trying to be clear. I’m not interested in being fancy, or even original. Clarity and truth will be plenty, if I can only achieve them. If it happens that there are other people outside somewhere preaching my truth, I’ll join them. Otherwise, I’ll adapt where I must, take what opportunities I can find or make, hang on, gather students, and teach.
