05/12/2025Bending Shapes: a guided improv dance meditationDance8:00:00 PM9:15:00 PMSan Francisco
300 4th Street, San Francisco
{first class is free - chargeless trial experience for all first time arrivers.} Learn to become a movist with ice composer, vocalist, retired ballerina, bending shape dancer, serrulate sonancer and ice opera designer, Xxhe. The first low-light class of the month -- we will, through dance meditation, isolate different parts of our body and mentally train ourselves to focus on each of them alone while moving. Along with learning the basics of dance, you will be given a handful of set movements to keep in your improv vocabulary and encouraged to pull them out throughout the dance. Though dancing is a muscle-demanding art, it is also a mental art. Learn not just how to move like a movist but how to think like one. At the highest level of Xxhe's improv style you will be an expert at making hard edged shapes with your body, ungulating your arms and torso in wind-like patterns, spinning open armed in controlled motions, and using your head as a momentous tool. For all levels, this class will also cover warmups, short exercise techniques and dance basics.

05/16/2025A Shy PoliticianTheater7:30:00 PM9:00:00 PMSan Francisco
2400 Bayshore Blvd SF CA 94134
David DeRuiter is back onstage with his debut solo show A Shy Politician — a physical comedy about an idiot who can’t stop running for office. Strap in for 45 minutes of political gaffes as our unlikely hero stumbles headlong into a political candidacy. It’s the day of the city council election, and Ben Porch is throwing his hat in the ring. There’s just one problem: he’s too shy to speak. Determined to win some votes, he makes his case in other ways: a spiffy wardrobe, a radio ad, a solo debate, and free lollipops. The more attention Ben gets, the more he likes the idea of holding public office. But does he have what it takes to get elected? Does he even want to? The blend of narrative comedy, classic clowning, rowdy audience interaction, and broad slapstick farce results in a one-of-a-kind show that is at once funny, stupid, and moving.David’s recent stage work includes the Edinburgh Fringe run of Crap Ballet, which previewed at the Yale School of Drama, as well as The Tank & Caveat in New York.

05/29/2025Lighting The Edge Festival12:00:00 PM12:00:00 AMNorth BayClear Lake, CA
A 3-day gathering. Lighting the Edge is an experimental gathering that has been growing over the last ~3 years. Each time, with the help of those who are curious enough to step in, the community lands a little more, the ethos deepens, and we continue to break open ways that we are “supposed” to gather. Together, we co-create, hold space and witness something which seems to emerge amongst us: a group field which has a collective desire and intention but is created from truth which rings through each individual. This may be the most unique festival you have ever been to because what it is will be created by those who show up. We ebb between collective group field and intimate facilitated workshops like the expansion and contraction of the lungs of a living breathing organism. We listen to what is needed amongst the group and invite those willing and capable to take that space, offering your service to the community. You will have time to enjoy and experience new ways of expressing and connecting as well as be encouraged and supported to facilitate and hold space for your favorite ways to do just that. A festival everyone loves is possible because you will be creating it based on what it is you desire at the moment. And so will everyone else.
Sliding scale $200-$400
