Language Arts Grade 7Year LongLanguage Arts Grade 7 is a course based on the English/Language Arts Indiana Academic Standards along with the integration of the Indiana Common Core Standards. This course involves five common units over the course of the year: Narrative, Theme, Argument and Reading for Information, Poetry, and Research. Throughout the common units, students will have a variety of instruction emphasizing reading of fiction and nonfiction texts; writing narratives, persuasive essays, and research papers; as well as speaking, listening, and presenting. ** Honor level classes are offered by recommendation only.

Mathematics Grade 7Year LongGrade 7 Mathematics will include learning concepts that cover number sense, computation, beginning level algebra, geometry and measurement. Problem solving will be integrated in each of these concepts.** Honor level classes are offered by recommendation only.

Science Grade 7Year LongStudents in seventh grade will study 3 main themes in science: the scientific method, physical science, and Earth science. Physical science will focus on types of energies and Newton's laws of motion. Earth science will focus on volcanos, earthquakes, layers of the earth, rocks and minerals, and weather. ** Honor level classes are offered by recommendation only.

Social Studies Grade 7Year LongStudents in 7th Grade Social Studies will study the history, governments, geography, economies, organizations, current issues, and cultures of the Eastern Hemisphere. Important units of study will be: Early Civilizations, the 5 major World Religions, Early West Africa and Trade Routes, Mongolian Empire, China, Japan, Korea, India, South Africa, Australia, and important events in the Middle East since World War II.

Visual Arts Grade 79 WeeksStudents will develop their artistic skills by learning art history, cultures of Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. They will discuss art and make art. Students will learn and practice the techniques of painting, drawing, clay techniques and other mixed media.

Business Grade 79 WeeksStudents will learn basic skills (word processing, spreadsheets, and multimedia presentations) within the main components of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In addition to the Microsoft software, there will be a focus on integrating those skills with the use of Google Docs.

Health and Wellness Grade 71 SemesterHealth and Wellness identifies healthy lifestyle habits. This experiential lab based class offers students opportunities to practically apply healthy habits to their own unique life circumstances. In addition, injury prevention, stress reduction, self-esteem, substance abuse, and health maintenance will be explored during this course.

Physical Education Grade 71 SemesterPhysical education students will be provided experiences in individual and team sports, and rhythmic activities. The class will also focus on fitness activities that will improve the five fitness components. These include, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance and body composition.

Band Grade 7Year LongBand provides students the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument. These include percussion, woodwinds, and brass instruments. Solo and ensemble activities are designed for students to develop the basic musicianship including tone production, technical skills and intonation. Activities include improvising, reading, composing and sight reading music.**Students will be expected to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day for a performance grade.

Choir Grade 7Year LongChoir provides students the opportunity to sing alone or with others. Students will learn how to read, write and compose music. Students will listen and analyze music. Students will analyze and evaluate their own performances. **Students will be expected to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day for a performance grade.

Orchestra Grade 7Year LongOrchestra provides students the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument. Orchestra is made up of the string instrument which includes the violin, viola, and bass. Solo and ensemble activities are designed for students to develop the basic musicianship including tone production, technical skills and intonation. Activities include improvising, reading, composing and sight reading music. **Students will be expected to participate in performances outside of the school day for a performance grade.

Exploring Music Grade 79 WeeksExploring Music course is designed to enable students to respond to music, and integrate music study into other subject areas. Activities and experiences in music are designed to develop students’ appreciation of music as an art form, and to understand music as it relates to history, culture and the community.

Technology Grade 79 WeeksTechnology Education provides students with project based instruction, that introduces them to the importance of technology and engineering and the principles used to develop, produce, use and assess it. Students will explore 6 different areas of technology: measurement, digital manufacturing, 3D modeling, graphic design, computer animation and electronics/robotics. Students will also see how these units apply to their daily lives, and the real world applications of each.
