What is a user journey?
5
User journey refers to the sequential steps that users progress through when using an app. These steps typically involve an app interaction or experience and they ultimately lead toward a specific goal. For instance, for an eCommerce app, the end goal may be completing a purchase, whereas for a gaming app the end goal might be to beat the final game level.

What are the stages of an app user journey?
9
User journey stages can vary between apps and are often informed by the app's monetization model and category. For instance, a free gaming app with 15 levels will have a different user journey than a fitness app that offers in-app workout classes for purchase. As you map out your user journey phases, think about different milestones along your customer journey and the timeline in which you'd like users to hit those milestones in order to reach your overhead goals (e.g earning revenue, increasing app users, improving user loyalty, etc). The best user journey maps are based on research — you may need to dig into your app analytics to determine what your existing user journey looks like before mapping out your ideal user journey.

Although no user journey is exactly the same, there are some common user journey phases that many apps share. Check out this article to learn about common user journey stages to use as a guide when filling in your user journey map.
