Please note the following for the above data fields:
26
27
List one sample per row. Add additional rows as necessary
28
29
Sample type: Examples (e.g. urine, feces, stomach contents, gastric fluid, whole fish, seawater)
30
31
¹Primary/Secondary Animal IDs: Include full animal ID from responding organization, and any relevant additional ID (e.g. national stranding database ID) to avoid confusion when reporting results to multiple organizations
32
33
*Stranding Date: For all animals, include the date the animal was first reported stranded (i.e. the last date the animal had free access to the marine environment before being sampled)
34
35
²Admit Date/Sample Collection Date: For live-stranded animals not euthanized/dead on the date they were recovered, include the date they were removed from the marine environment, and also the date on which this sample was collected
36
(this gives an estimate of how long a delay after potential exposure to HAB toxins the animal was sampled)
37
38
Sample comments: Include how the sample was handled (e.g. fixed, frozen, in alcohol, heparinized, filtered) or appearance/size (e.g. weight, volume, color, bloody, sandy, container description), or anything unusual
39
40
Animal comments: Disposition (e.g. dead with code, live-stranded, re-stranding, pup/neonate, rehab animal, multiple samples during rehab)
41
42
Latitude/longitude: (or best estimate) where the animal was recovered, in decimal degrees
43
44
For non-animal samples (e.g. seawater, sediment, phytoplankton filters, extracts), include any relevant data, such as: water depth, volume filtered, species, etc.
