Methodology: Tax rates from Sanders' 2013 bill S. 1782 "SEC. 59B. Health Care Income Tax" were applied to the average income for each income sub-bracket (IRS Table 1.1 "All Returns: Selected Income and Tax Items, Tax Year 2013"). Note that the tax sub-brackets provided by the IRS do not correspond exactly to the tax tables proposed by Sanders. The payroll tax of 6.7% was applied to the aggregate wages and salaries (IRS Table 1.4 "All Returns: Sources of Income, Adjustments, and Tax Items, by Size of Adjusted Gross Income, Tax Year 2013").
