39 | This is a well suited pair but must work on some basics that you will use through out the levels. You must establish a steady but soft and elastic connection with your horse. You do this through half halts and flexions in the horse's jaw and poll. He must be soft and balanced to lower his poll and reach over his back and into the connection. Make sure on your entry you have enough leg on and continue to ride the transition to walk all the way through. Don't stop riding when you feel the horse begin to walk. Ride the whole transition and the walk once it happens. Make sure you have your horse flexed and slightly bent in the direction you are turning on the centerline, so in this test it would be to the right. When you ask for the trot at M afer your center line, slight flexion and bend to the right, soften the horse and the ask for the trot. Allow the horse to trot be keep riding. You need to start to feel how much leg and hand to maintain the horse in proper balance. This goes for every turn, every transition, it is the preparation for everything. Remember your circles must touch on the sides of the arena, the judge sees when they are too small. Make a difference between when you start and end your 20m circle and the corner. A 20m circle does not go into the corner but does touch the sides. The free walk is an art in itself and must be worked on. Don't just throw the reins at your horse. Get the horse soft and reaching to your hand first and gradually allow the reins to get longer. Maintaining a light contact will also help you help the horse reach out to the bridle. You want the horse to walk with energy but if you over push, especially if they are not balanced they will trot just like in this test. You have a lovely horse and with some work on getting him to lower his poll and reach into the contact the movements of the test will become so much easiser and you will show the true talent of you and your horse! Best of luck! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
