I have played at many solo events over the years, including high-profile gigs like the GG History awards for multiple years running. I have competed at the World Bagpipe Championships in Glasgow and have led my youth band Thuirle Thairle through a host of competitions including the Worlds in 2018. I am a multi-instrumentalist and have been a professional musician for over 45 years. I have been a musical educator for more than 30 years and am a PDQB certified tutor. Apart from tutoring bagpipes, I spend much of my time composing/arranging, playing and recording professionally with my Celtic rock band Fiùran (Bass, Bagpipes, Irish Whistles, vocals).15 - 205 - 10cogsci@rogers.comOttawa/GatineauBothBeginner, Intermediate, AdvancedI tutor students from several local bands.

After playing lead tenor for several years with the City of Regina Pipe Band in Grade 2, Kate Dudek (then Kate Rennie) competed in Grade 1 with the 78th Fraser Highlanders. Being a part of the Best Drum Corps and Best Bass wins in Grade 1 at the World Pipe Band Championships in 2007 was a particular career highlight. She has been instructing, composing, and choreographing for tenor and bass drummers in private lessons and bands in Southern Ontario since 2008, including the Guelph Pipe Band, Grade 3 North American Champions and Best Bass Section in 2019. She has Intermediate and Advanced Theory and Harmony Certifications from the Royal Conservatory of Music and has been certified to judge bass and tenor for the PPBSO since 2014.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, she has continued to work with the Guelph Pipe Band, running "coronapractices" via a combination of asynchronously recorded video/audio compilations and analysis over Zoom calls.

Kate is available to write scores for band midsections or solo tenor/bass, group workshops as well as instruction for bands (ongoing or workshops), and solo lessons. Due to the pandemic, she is currently working primarily via online sessions.

I am PDQB (Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board, Scotland) certified bagpipe tutor and have been active in the Celtic arts for most of my life. I am a musician, composer, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist (trumpet, bass guitar, bagpipes, Irish whistles, synthesizer and vocals) and have toured as a professional musician. As well as teaching and playing bagpipes I teach Scottish Gaelic language and culture at University of Ottawa, write Celtic themed novels under the pen-name Gil Waugh and compose/record/perform with the internationally acclaimed and award winning Celtic rock band Fiùran (Sapling). My greatest joy of all though is guiding others in learning to play, achieving their musical goals and growing into well-rounded musicians.
