Hello! This will be my 7th year teaching and second year in 3rd grade. I am hoping to provide my students with STEM materials as well as flexible seating options. Hello! I am Sarah and I am a second year 4th grade teacher. My class is a beautiful place where kids are free to be themselves, try new things and grow. I’d feel so blessed to have you check out my wishlist!

My wish list includes several books that are used to instruct reading and writing. I have also including items that can be used for morning bins in my classroom. This allows students to have a soft and calm start to their days.

I am heading back to teaching after staying home with my kids for several years so I am starting from scratch with my classroom and materials. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to teach again and look forward to meeting my new students in August.

High School / Flex Lab (credit recovery)

I am starting a new role within our credit recovery program, which allows students to earn credit from courses they’ve failed or have not completed. I’m hoping to make the space a welcoming and inviting one, where students feel supported and can complete their work with integrity. As a math teacher, many students have a predisposition against the content so I’m hoping to help them find success!

I teach high school math. I’m going to implement something this year called Building Thinking Classrooms. This framework increases thinking, engagement and communication by having students work in groups at whiteboards. I’ll use these supplies to help with implementation. I’m excited to help kids see they can do math and even like it. :)

Early Childhood Special Education

Our department serves kids in the community ages birth to three who have a developmental delay or are at risk to develop one. I am the consultant for our department. We work with families in their homes and often times the families don’t have the supplies they need to best work with their kiddos.

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd,4th and 5th Reading Specialist

I work with 4-8 students in each classroom k-5 who need remediation or enrichment. I typically work with 60 students per semester.

My second year in 5th grade. I’m going into my 7th year of teaching! I’m working hard to make my classroom inclusive and diverse, I want to incorporate flexible seating and offer tools that will benefit all my students. I also want to help all my students by including soft starts in my classroom, so I’m trying to acquire different materials for that!

English As A Second Language/ESOL/ESL

I teach English to students who have another language as their first language. I’ll have mostly K-2 students who have very little, or no, experience with English. I’ll see each of the students daily for 15-30 minutes and I’ll have anywhere from 1-5 students at a time.

Many of these kiddos have much different life experiences when compared to their peers. For example, many have never been to the zoo, a pumpkin patch, or even the same fast food places/restaurants as their peers 🥺

There are SO many more ways we can still bring fun life experiences into the classroom & that is our focus this year! We want them to be excited for their time in the ESL room & to get experiences that they may not have otherwise all while learning English. Since we focus on teaching them how to listen, speak, read, and write English—there are limitless ways we can make education FUN for them. Fun is important because students are able to learn SO much more when they’re having fun, feel safe, feel welcome, and feel loved. ❤️

We’re very fortunate to have tons of amazing learning material (plenty of books at the students varying reading levels, flash cards, etc). However, we could use more of the “fun” stuff so that’s most of what’s on my list.

I am a 4th year special education teacher, I work with a group of middle school students who receive Special Education services with a variety of specific needs.

I teach at Goodrell Middle School in Des Moines, Iowa. We are a title 1, extended comprehensive building. I work with students to boost their reading and writing abilities. I am always building my library to be full of diverse and inclusive books to encourage reading.

6-8 Special Education Math

I teach middle schoolers with special education math goals. I support them both in their general education classes, as well as provide them their specially designed instruction. :) We try to incorporate games and problem solving activities to promote problem solving in both math content and the real world!

Des Moines (Delaware Elementary)

I am heading into my 10th year as a 3rd Grade teacher! I teach at a title 1 school with students who do not usually bring a lot of supplies. The days can be long in the classroom, but I wouldn’t want to teach or work anywhere else. My school is the best school I’ve ever worked at and I am incredibly grateful to make even a small difference in the lives of my students!

I teach Fourth Grade at a Title 1 school. This is my second year in this district, school, and grade level. I taught younger grades previously so I am still updating my classroom to meet the needs of fourth graders. Students are allowed to bring a snack each day, however 40-50% of my students did not bring a snack on a regular basis. I did my best to keep my snack drawer stocked, but with two little boys at home my grocery bill was tight. I also had a big need for fidgets to help my students stay focused and engaged. Hello! I am a first year teacher and am very excited to create an inviting and engaging classroom for my students.

Reading makes students more empathetic by letting them learn through other worlds and character experiences. It can make students feel less lonely by connecting to characters that are going through the same things they are in their life. Reading helps students become better human beings. Period. Not to mention the academic benefits of being readers for life. The key to doing that is having high interest books. I am always looking for ways to expand my classroom library.

Hi! I’m going into my ninth year teaching at a Charter School. I teach in a low income area so about 70% of my students come to school with little to no supplies! My goal is to proved as many supplies as I can so that my kiddos can be successful! Also, it’s one thing they shouldn’t have to worry about. They have enough to deal with being in middle school!

I teach 5th grade at a title school. The majority of my kids walk in with very few, if any, basic supplies. The majority of supplies are bought by me or I need for donations.

I’m always looking for calming activities to create a safe, calm environment. My students have been through a tornado, derecho, Covid, and last year 4 students were killed in a car accident, on top of low socioeconomic status and the trauma that can cause. I also have several refugee students as well and students in the LGBTQ community who need acceptance and support, so I love to keep a ton of different types of fidgets on hand because their families often can’t afford something that could help calm them and bring them peace when anxiety or depression hits. I am always working to provide a calm, supportive and welcoming environment. Thank you!

Hello all! My name is Laramie and I am a public school teacher in Des Moines, Iowa. I teach 9th-12th grade and three different subjects focusing mainly on Chemistry and AP Biology. My goal as a teacher is to always make students feel welcome and included in my classroom, to make it feel like a safe space. One of the ways I do this is by offering food and snacks to students who are hungry. Kids focus best when they're not hungry. Many of the things on my list are consumables because as time has gone on, class sizes have gotten larger and budgets have gotten smaller.

In my class's we do a lot of labs, experiments, diagramming, whiteboarding, think alouds, concept mapping, color coding, etc. All to get the kids really digging into the content and having them make connections and draw conclusions supported by evidence.

My class is well stocked with the necessary science items but every year I spend a lot of my own money on additional items that are on my list. They include fun prize items that students can earn as well as other middle school essentials such as deodorant and pencils. I go through SO many of these each year and it provides peace of mind to my students that they have access to these basic items.

I teach English to newcomer students to the country. We would love any supplies for reading and community building! This class is a safe place for many students new-to-country.

This will be my third year teaching 7th grade science and a section of study hall (hence some games on the list for my study hall kids :)). I love hands-on activities and inquiry in the science classroom to really get students engaged. Elementary Special Education

As a special education teacher each year brings on new challenges, adventures, and celebrations. This year I will support 3-5 grade with a self contained kiddo as well. We have a wide range of needs but I get to work with the coolest kids!

This will be my 21st year teaching- 15th in 2nd grade. I love creating a classroom environment that is welcoming, organized, and efficient. Doing this effectively takes refurbishing supplies each year, and implementing new ideas to help keep students motivated and engaged.

High School/ Special Education- Severe and Profound

I teach in a self-contained special education classroom for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Many of my students live in group home settings and receive 24 hr care. I want my classroom to be fun and engaging, but especially for them to leave high school with skills to be independent in whatever their home situation is later and to lead fulfilling lives. I do this by not only teaching academics, but by teaching activities of daily living, behavior management, work skills, and recreation & leisure skills. Any and all support is so appreciated!!!!

Hi! My name is Kelsey Sigvertsen, and I am a 1st grade teacher for Des Moines Public Schools. This is my 6th year of teaching, and my first year in 1st grade. The previous five years I have taught 2nd grade. I am very excited for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year! A little about my school and classroom: we are a title 1 school located in a part of Des Moines where many refugee families live. We have over 70% multilingual learners, with over 20 different home languages in our school alone! Many of our students are learning English for the first time. Because of this, we are in need of many literacy resources in support of our multilingual learners!
My personal classroom is in need of books and literacy resources. This will help my students have more resources to learn with, and more importantly, resources that are appropriate for their learning level. I want my students to see themselves in texts- people that look like them, and role models that would provide them dreams for the future. Also, my students love character books! As they become interested in certain characters, they fall in love with reading. The more they practice, the more confident they are. Reading is the key to success in everything we do, so this is very important!
Lastly, my classroom would love new indoor recess toys. As you know, Iowa winter weather is unpredictable and very cold at times! That keeps us stuck inside for most of January and February. I would love more puzzles and building toys for students to play with. What a great way to build social skills and teamwork.

My name is Dita or Mrs. Youngman as my students call me. This is going to be my second year teaching in Des Moines Public School district.

Here’s a little bit of my back story. Last year was my first year in the district after moving out of my home country, Indonesia in 2018 and teaching in China and India for 4 years. I am grateful that DMPS took my experience and background growing up as a bilingual to teach our multilingual learners so we are also able to move back to be closer to (my husband’s) family. I cannot be happier with the experience and colleagues and students I encountered thus far (although I had to be away for 2 months after giving birth to our first child).

This upcoming year, I will be co-teaching math to support our multilingual learners. I will also be teaching ELD (English Language Development) next academic year for our newcomers and beginners. As excited as I am working with our multilingual learners to explore their superpower, I remember the number of classroom materials and resources I had to sell/left in India when we ended/put on hold our time teaching internationally – which is most, if not all of them. With that being said, I have to rebuild my classroom resources. Sharing a teacher's wishlist is new to me, and my experience thus far is an awakening for me to see how underfunded public schools are in the United States.

Most of the stuff I have on this list are for color and shape coding that can help our language learners navigate content while acquiring new language. If you get a chance, I really appreciate any help I can get.
