Formidine Mystery Resource
So, in the face of overwhelming odds, I'm left with only one option: I'm going to have to science the shit out of this
This document attempts to gather together all credible information on the Formidine Mystery as started by Drew Wagar in his Elite Authorised short story - Reclamation. Sorry if we are using your information without credit, but with open science, it really should not matter.
It also serves as a place to cooridinate an organised search for the Formidine Mystery - See the "Becomming a Rifter FAQ"
Currently Comment mode, so please feel free to use it to contribute data and ideas for development. I can give modify rights to known Cmdrs who have a valuable input.

|Home planet Hassan and Sushil : "It is in the WREDGUIA sector about 400 light years from Sol"||Is in the direction of the Rift from the main bubble, so nothing of major consequence, but supportive of the general direction|
‘Don’t tell no one, but I got as far as the Formidine Rift, not many folks can say that! No one has gone past it and lived to tell the tale.’
‘The Formid …?’
‘Edge of the galactic arm. Take a line from Reorte to Riedquat to the edge of the arm and … keep going.’ The woman grimaced. ‘Stars thin out, you can see the whole galaxy just hanging there
The RR Line points to the Formidine Rift. NOT specifically at anything beyond. So while it is a good point of reference, the Snark may not neccessarily be very close to the line
The video played.
'If you're listening to this it means you're smart enough to have bypassed Galcop, Federation and Imperial security.' The woman on the video smiled. 'Not bad, but it's nothing compared to what's coming. I'm guessing you'll be pressed for time so I'll be quick. You'll find the coordinates at the end of this message. You'll need a tough ship and a good pilot. It's a long way, so make sure you're prepped, no one will be around to help you out. Once you reach the rift you're going to have to plot a way across. There are no stars for dozens of light years and the dark systems haven't been mapped, so take your time, watch your six'. The woman leaned in closer to the recording device. 'What's there? Wish I could tell you, but they edited my memory pretty good, took me long enough to stitch this lot back together. Whatever it is, it's something that Galcop, the Imps and the Feds don't want us to see. Good luck, and ... right on, Commander.'
The holofac faded, leaving them just the text.
Coords could be embedded in 'Good luck, and ... right on, Commander.' or could have been in seperate text that we have no information on.
And Here The Wheel;
"You don't know what I've seen. I've sailed beyond the Formidine Rift, seen the fleets of Octagonal ships blocking out the stars. I've stood on lost worlds, sterilised clean by the Thargoids and erased from humanity's maps. I've seen the graves from the Thargoid wars, countless headstones stretching beyond the curvature of the horizon, little spots of reflected light dottering the abandoned continent ..."
Formidine Rift and Thargoids are associated, not neccessarily directly related to Drew's Snark
1. It is there to be found in game in ED.
2. You do not need 'Horizons' to find it as it was finalised long before 'Horizons'.
3. Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking.
|The Engineers expansion may make it easier, but it's been possible since launch back in 2014.||Improved FSD, Bookmarks, Improved Scanners are all a possibility|
It's not locked to a rank. All you need is wanderlust, patience and an ability to read between the lines.
As for the ship at the end of Elite: Reclamation it was actually an Imperial Clipper, though it's called a Courier in the story. You can find out why on my FAQ page > http://www.drewwagar.com/elite-dange...e-reclamation/
This is indeed correct though the group (Children of Raxxla) is genuinely in game as minor faction. Sorry, I hadn't spotted that comment about the logo. Kahina's story was halted last year due to 'issues' with the way Galnet was being edited and sequenced. Those have since been resolved and thus the story continues. Clues as to the Rift itself are in-game and in-book, along with all the other ED storylines. There might be hints on social media/forum/reddit etc, but you should focus resources on Galnet, In game and In book as 'canon' to the story. If it hasn't happened there, I would say it hasn't happened. Fan-fiction, regardless of quality, is not canon, and that includes my own stories prior to ED.
My website articles should be treated as 'summaries' of the canon for convenience, there are no direct 'clues' continued therein. These articles were written to make us much background lore available as possible within the restrictions of my NDA. Thus any info there is already available somewhere else - hopefully I've just made it more accessible.
What does "NDA" mean? - "Non-Disclosure Agreement" There is stuff that he knows from working with FD, but is contractually not allowed to divulge.
Erimus' position for the Formidine Rift is broadly correct as per the map on this thread, so you are in the right area.
The DW expedition has not been associated with the Rift itself as part of their journey to Beagle point. (They are in tangential directions as per the map)
The Map is Broadly Correct
|if we take the first letters of "Right on, Commander" and apply rot13 to that, you'd get EB, P. Is there a star system with EB and P in it?||This was solved in reverse as a training exercise from Drew Wagar|
Add 500ly points within and beyond the rift on the Rr line to always have a route destination
Come up with a way to record systems or areas searched
Follow the RR line, recording all Sub Sectors for later searching
