DUAL CREDIT STUDENT & PARENT AGREEMENT
2
Student Name:
3
4
Dual credit programs provide students with a wonderful opportunity to earn college credit while completing the requirements for high school graduation.
5
6
Students should be performing at an A/B grade level in their high school curriculum, possess advanced skills, and should demonstrate the maturity level needed to be successful in college-level coursework. Parents and students should consider goals, maturity, responsibility, academic ability levels, and other extracurricular commitments prior to enrolling in the dual credit program.
7
8
Some important factors to be aware of include, but are not limited to, those listed in this document. Please read it carefully and ask for clarification if you have questions or concerns.
9
10
Please read and initial each statement acknowledging student and parent/guardian consent of the following rules and guidelines for Dual Credit.

PRIMARY I/We understand that the student will contact Mrs. Cumba at acumba@eastland.esc14.net immediately if they are having issues in a course or have questions about dual credit.
16
Admissions Requirements
17
The student must have the approval of a parent prior to admissions. Submitting this form or any other paperwork to Eastland High School does not guarantee eligibility or enrollment into the dual credit program.
18
Students must apply to both Ranger College and Cisco College before June 20. There are no exceptions to this date. Applications can be found at www.rangercollege.edu and www.cisco.edu. Please read each application carefully.
19
I/We understand some college courses require students to have a passing English Language Arts & Reading TSIA score and passing Math TSIA score. The Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) is an assessment that measures college readiness. A passing score on the TSIA English test is 945 on the reading section and a 5 on the essay section. A passing Math TSIA score is 950. Some students may be exempt from taking the TSIA for dual credit enrollment. Students who score over 4000 on their English II STAAR test and over 4000 on their Math STAAR test plus pass Algebra II may be exempt from taking the TSIA. Being exempt from TSIA for dual credit purposes does not exempt students from taking and passing TSIA for entrance into other colleges or universities.
20
I/We understand by applying with an institution of higher education, the student is responsible for knowing, understanding, and following all policies, rules, and regulations for that college, in addition to following the rules and regulations set forth by Eastland High School.
21
22
College Etiquette & Logistics:
23
Calendar: I/We understand college calendars differ from high school calendars. The student is expected to complete assignments even if Eastland High School is not in session. If EHS is on holiday and the dual credit institution is in session, students are expected to continue working in their dual credit classes per the instructor's syllabus. The student will be aware of add/drop deadlines and contact Mrs. Cumba immediately if they need to drop a course.
24
Communication: I/We understand the student will have an email account assignment to them by Ranger College and Cisco College. Each college will use the college email account to contact the student, NOT the student's high school or personal email account. It is imperative the student check their college email account regularly for success in their dual credit courses.
25
Students must respond to college emails in a timely manner. The student will use their respective college's email for all official communication with college faculty and staff.
26
Environment: I/We understand students will be in a learning environment which explores a diverse and open range of ideas which require a mature understanding of multiple perspectives. Students must be able to engage in discussions in a respectful and responsible manner. Course materials and class discussions may reflect topics not typically included in high school courses, which some parents may object to for minors. Alternative assignments will not be provided in these cases as these are college classes.
27
Dropping Courses: I/We understand if a student is underperforming in a course or incurs and academic integrity violation, the professor has the right to administratively drop the student from the course. If a student is failing a course by the drop date, the student may be withdrawn from the course. Mrs. Cumba will call parents/guardians prior to dropping a student from a course. Please the Grades section below for more information about grades.
28
Rigor: I/We understand the dual credit program is a rigorous program for motivated high school students who demonstrate interest, maturity, and academic readiness. The Dual Credit program requires a significant commitment from the student for them to be successful. Students/guardians should consider the student's organizational, time management, and academic skills before enrolling. The academic work will be more demanding and the university faculty will expect students to perform at the same level as any other college student. Courses will not be modified to accommodate different student ages and maturity.
29
Transferability: I/We understand courses are generally transferable; however, it is the responsibility of the student/guardian to ensure the dual credit course(s) for which the student enrolls are transferable to the college/university the student plans to attend. More information about transferability of credits can be found at www.tccns.org.
30
Tutoring: I/We understand it is the student's responsibility to seek academic assistance for their college courses. Both Ranger College and Cisco College offer online tutoring services. Information about tutoring services can be found on Ranger College's and Cisco College's websites.
31
Withdrawal: Students who wish to withdraw or drop classes must meet the college calendar deadline and must meet with Mrs. Cumba prior to dropping. Withdrawal from class will affect the student's eligibility for future scholarships and financial aid. It is the responsibility of the student to contact either Ranger College or Cisco College to determine how this may affect their future. Students who withdraw or drop courses will be placed on Dual Credit Probation at EHS.
32
Final Exams: I/We understand final exams must be taken at school.
33
34
Costs:
35
Tuition: EISD pays $100 per class for up to 4 classes each semester. I/We understand remaining tuition costs becomes the responsibility of the family.
36
Textbooks: I/We understand some courses require students to purchase a textbook or other course materials. Purchasing a textbook or other course materials is the responsibility of the family
37
38
Grades: I/We understand:
39
The final dual credit grade issued by the university is permanent record on the student's future college transcript, and this grade WILL affect their college GPA, their eligibility for scholarships, and their possible acceptance to other post-secondary institutions.
40
Grades earned in a dual credit course will be permanently transcribed onto the students' college AND high school transcripts.
41
Grades a student earns will be used to calculate their college AND high school GPAs and will affect their financial aid eligibility.
42
Dual credit grades are weighted in the high school GPA. For graduating classes of 2025 and 2026, all dual credit courses are weighted with 10 extra points. Beginning with the graduating class of 2027, only core classes (English, math, science, and history) will be weighted with 10 extra points. This was a change voted on by the EISD School Board.
43
Numerical grades on a high school transcript for a dual credit course will not reflect the additional 10 points given. The additional 10 points is reflected in the students cumulative GPA and the 4.0 college scale GPA.
44
Current grades will be posted to the student's progress report but will not affect eligibility.
45
All students have 24/7 access to their grades and assignments through their college Canvas site and may login and check grades anytime.
46
Students who earn a semester grade of F will not be allowed to take dual credit classes for one semester.
47
Students who earn a semester grade of D will be put on Dual Credit Probation and will be limited to taking one course the following semester. If the student subsequently earns another D or lower, the student will not be allowed to take dual credit courses for one semester.
48
49
FERPA
50
Limited Parental Involvement: I/We understand the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law which protects the privacy of student educational records. These rights transfer from guardians to the student when the student reaches 18 years old or enrolls in college, regardless of age. Therefore, college instructors and staff will not communicate directly with the parent. The student must conduct all academic business for themself. As such, it is the student's responsibility to communicate with the instructor regarding their grade. Additionally, FERPA rules apply to EHS faculty and staff. We are more than happy to help students communicate with their instructors, but we may not contact the instructor for the student.
51
52
Academic Integrity:
53
I/We understand students are expected to complete coursework with honesty and integrity. Academic dishonesty is defined as any form of cheating, plagiarism, collusion, or falsification of scholastic records. This includes work generated by an app or artificial intelligence websites like ChatGPT and similar websites. Students are expected to turn in their own original work. Instances of cheating, plagiarism, or collusion will result in students being placed on Dual Credit Probation and will only be allowed to take one dual credit course the following semester. At the college level, consequences for academic dishonesty are at the discretion of the professors and colleges.
54
55
Dual Credit Handbook:
56
I/We have acknowledge that we have received the Eastland High School Dual Credit Handbook for the 2024-2025 school year. We are responsible for reading and understanding the rules and other information contained in the Dual Credit Handbook.
57
Duration: This form is valid for the current semester only and must be completed at the beginning of each new semester.
