One can walk backwards with s.Walking north, south, east, and west. You can use beacons which beep in the direction of the location you are trying to find. The beacons beep faster as you get closer. A button will also say to go a direction to reach the beacon (southwest 200 steps). Footsteps sound on different textures and when you enter different areas your screen reader will say something like: “gas station parking lot”. You press w to hear what direction you are facing. You can also use radar that sweep in different areas and have different beeps based on the terrain that is around. There will be a soft tinkle beep for open space and a loud solid beep for impassible terrain. There are 5 radar, one for in front of you, one for behind you, one for your left, one for your right and one that goes in a circle around you. There is also a building exit finder that will thump faster as you get near an exit. When you hit walls or water, you will hear the sound of hitting a wall or water. You couple this sound with the sound of your own footsteps to know if you are still moving or not.Objects and creatures are audio icons in space. Zombies are footsteps and groans that move around the space. Loot is buzzing flies, and special items are a special beeping sound. When you get items, your screen reader identifies it. You can read past announcements if you miss it at first. You can press I to see what is in your inventory.You change weapons by pressing numbers, you hear your health and what you are wearing by pressing z, and you can speak prerecorded clips by pressing f and another key. S is your stats, g is the get menu, e is the equipment menu, I is inventory, and c is the cast menu for spells. When you cast spells at creatures, pressing keys on the numpad aim. The whole map is a rectangle and the edges say “edge of map” when you hit the edge of the map.If there are several units on the square, it will say something like “Good cleric, 3 items” That way you know to hit tab to get to the next unit. You hit enter on the unit to get to the unit’s menu. Then you arrow down through the menu and hit enter to hear about what abilities and stats the units have. When you press escape and hit the finish turn button, there is a log of what the enemy does.Each creature and building has a name that the screen reader announces when you enter the square and most creatures have a sound that plays when you arrow over the top of them.Moving through the menu that pops up when enter is pressed is the main way of doing actions.
