11 | Germany's biggest newspaper publisher, which is called Axel Springer and which publishes Europe's top-selling newspaper, called Bild, has surrendered in its battle with Google. The publisher was one of the 200 German publishers demanding that Google pay licensing fees for showing more than just headlines and links to the publisher's newspaper articles. In a trial, Axel Springer opted out of Google Search, suffered inevitable and catastrophic declines in traffic, and are now allowing Google to link to its newspapers. During the trial, overall search traffic dropped 40 percent, and traffic from Google News dropped 80 percent. The publisher claims the experiment proves Google's monopoly powers. | http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/11/05/us-google-axel-sprngr-idUSKBN0IP1YT20141105

16 | Facebook said in a blog post yesterday that requests by governments for user information rose by about 24% percent in the first half of 2014 over the same period last year. In the first six months of this year, governments asked Facebook for data 34,946 times. During the same period, the types of data restricted because of various local laws increased by about 19 percent, according to Facebook. The post said that Facebook is " aggressively pursuing an appeal to a higher court to invalidate these sweeping warrants and to force the government to return the data it has seized." | http://newsroom.fb.com/news/2014/11/global-government-requests-report-3/ | https://gigaom.com/2014/11/04/facebook-stats-show-government-requests-up-24-since-2013-5000-fisa-requests/
17 | Jeff John Roberts writes for Gigaom. Q: It seems like every report like this shows big jumps in such requests. Are individual governments increasing the number of requests, or are more governments getting into the act? Q: Is Facebook becoming an increasingly popular target for data requests? Q: Are most of these related to criminal suspects? What are these governments looking for? Q: The report specified a 19 percent increase in the content restricted because of local laws. What are they talking about? Q: How much do we know about Facebook's approval or denial of such requests | Jeff John Roberts Writer, Gigaom * @jeffjohnroberts

23 | A company called OnBeep has created what is essentially a Star Trek communicator. The $99 wearable device they're calling the Onyx offers push-to-talk communication with other people who also happen to be Onyx users. The device connects via Bluetooth to your smartphone, which handles the Internet connection. An iOS or Android app can also show other members of your group on a map, and see who's talking. Battery life is about 12 hours. The Onyx is now available for pre-order. | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb8IwBg8yac | http://venturebeat.com/2014/11/05/onbeep-onyx/
24 | Jordan Novet writes for VentureBeat. Q: You tried the Onyx personally. What did you think? Q: What problem does this solve? Q: Isn't this a bit on the big side for a consumer product? Q: Why not let Onyx users communicate with non-users? Wouldn't that speed adoption? Q: Is this a product or a feature? Shouldn't this functionality just be built into smartwartches and smart glasses? Q: You said they spent a lot of time on the clip. Can you tell us about that? | Jordan Novet Writer, VentureBeat @jordannovet

28 | When Apple announced it's Apple Watch recently, they said the wearable would start at $349. That's assumed to be the base price for the Apple Watch Sport, which is an aluminum version of the watch, that does not even have a sapphire display. Now, a French website called iGen.fr says the stainless steel with sapphire version, simply called the Apple Watch, may start at $500 and that the gold version, called the Apple Watch Edition, could cost between 4 and 5 thousand dollars. The good news is that Apple is still shooting for a Valentine's Day release. The information comes from unnamed sources. | http://www.igen.fr/apple-watch/2014/11/info-igen-500-pour-lapple-watch-le-14-fevrier-88380

It was created by a former Twitter developer. And you don't even need to be logged in to use it, though it does request a log-in when you start using it in order to retweet or comment.
