The initiative includes training Omani editors on essential editing skills and introducing them to the Arabic Wikipedia community, its figures, and activities, to enable them to actively participate in building free knowledge.

In this discussion session, the program organizers and one of the participants will share their experiences in the program.


برنامج ويكي للشباب العماني هو مبادرة تنظمها مجموعة ويكيميديا الإمارات بالتعاون مع مؤسسة جاهزين لإنشاء بذرة لمجتمع ويكيميدي في سلطنة عمان. تشمل المبادرة تدريب محررين من السلطنة على مهارات التحرير الرئيسة وتعريفهم على مجتمع ويكيبيديا العربية وأعلامه ونشاطاته لفتح الباب أمامهم للمشاركة الفاعلة في بناء المعرفة الحرة.

This initiative democratizes access to knowledge for millions of people, inspiring deeper understanding, igniting curiosity, and cultivating a legacy of continuous learning.

This sessions invites participants to bring their questions, comments, and suggestions to the two main parts of this proposal: 1) updating the Regional Fund Committee members selection process, and 2) the creation of a Global Resource Distribution Committee that creates new parameters and frameworks for the overall grantmaking process.بعد عدم التصديق على ميثاق الحركة من قبل مؤسسة ويكيميديا، قام مجلس الأمناء بتقديم أحد المقترحات المدرجة في مسودة الميثاق لمناقشة المجتمع لإجراء تغييرات في نماذج توزيع المنح في الحركة. يدعو هذا الاجتماع المشاركين إلى طرح أسئلتهم وتعليقاتهم ومقترحاتهم حول الجزأين الرئيسيين من هذا المقترح: 1) تحديث عملية اختيار أعضاء لجنة الصندوق الإقليمي، و 2) إنشاء لجنة توزيع الموارد العالمية التي تنشئ معايير وأُطر جديدة لعملية منح المنح بشكل عام.

Therefore, we will strive to analyze, discuss, and address this problem in the Arab world through a panel discussion involving six representatives from Arab groups. These representatives will share their experiences with this issue and explore ways to resolve it. This roundtable discussion will explore how the underrepresentation of women individuals in Wikimedia projects and other digital public goods not only affects the quality and inclusivity of content but also limits the diversity of perspectives that are crucial for shaping equitable digital spaces. Wikimedia, as one of the largest digital public goods, reflects the disparities that exist in broader society, where systemic biases and barriers prevent equal participation.

The discussion will begin by examining the scale and impact of the gender gap on Wikimedia projects. Women currently make up only around 15-20% of contributors to Wikipedia, and this imbalance has resulted in significant gender biases in content, from missing biographies of notable women to skewed coverage of topics related to women's health, history, and achievements. Digital public goods are meant to serve as shared resources for all, yet this gap reveals how a significant portion of the population remains underrepresented both as contributors and in the content itself.

This session will bring together advocates, and community members to envision a more equitable digital future.		الفجوة بين الجنسين في المساحات الرقمية لا تزال قضية ملحة، خاصة داخل منصات المعرفة المفتوحة مثل ويكيبيديا. ستستكشف هذه المناقشة المستديرة كيف يؤثر تمثيل النساء غير الكافي في مشاريع ويكيبيديا وغيرها من السلع العامة الرقمية ليس فقط على جودة وشمولية المحتوى، ولكن أيضًا على التنوع في وجهات النظر التي هي حاسمة لتشكيل مساحات رقمية عادلة. ويكيبيديا، كواحدة من أكبر السلع العامة الرقمية، تعكس التفاوتات الموجودة في المجتمع الأوسع، حيث تمنع التحيزات والقيود المنهجية المشاركة المتساوية.
